Default Jump Shooting at its Best!

Had a great day out on Saturday jump shooting some irrigation canals. We bagged our limit of 15 Mallards and one Gadwall, including two Mallards with jewellery. All around it was an absolutely awesome day!

Nice shooting. Nothing better than a tailgate full of green.

What Canal were you jumping? I have been waching the St. Mary's without seeing any real numbers. mainly 1 or 2 packs every 2 or 3 miles but really jumpy.

Great pics. Brings back memories of jump shooting mallards in October when I was in high school. My favorite areas were north of burdett on the SMRID canals. After the water stopped flowing seemed to be the best for greenheads. Earlier was prime for teals.

Ryan, Mulecrazy was right on the money with his comments except we were on the EID. We shot a bunch of teal and buffleheads on the same canals in September when the water was flowing but the Mallards seemed to wait until the canals were shut off. It was amazing...they just kept flying back in after we jumped them.

Cujo...you don't have to phone in your band numbers you can check them out on line at http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/BBL/homepage/mailrecv.htm. We were able to find out exactly when they were both banded in a matter of minutes and will get sent certificates by e-mail.

Ya, it was kind of interesting in that the two ducks were banded a year apart exactly to the day (one in 2006 and the other 2007) yet they were shot only a few hundred yards apart.

Band returns always tell an interesting story... and I treasure them. That said, a few years ago they were worth a fortune on Ebay so I sold all of mine. I've killed a few since then, and will keep them.

Anywhere from $50 to $200 USD a piece, depending on age, style, rarity, etc.

Wow, always amazes me what people will pay for what they consider collector's items.
