Default Prarie creek right now?

I was looking to head up to prarie creek this weekend. It will be my first time fly fishing a stream. Where should I go? What flies should I use? Is the fishing any good right now?

Advice for a newbie fly fishing any stream would be get off the beaten path when possible. For flies, consult hatch charts but the time I went a couple years was buggy attractors like humpies and stimulators with a dropper. I cannot comment on what the fishing is like though

Caddis fly hatch going around the rocky mountain house area. Elk wing caddis flies have been big producers on Prairie as well as Chironomid nymph patterns.

Water is CLEAR and the big boys are line shy - light light light tippet and have at it.

I did alright a couple nights ago...I didn't exactly hammer them but I caught five browns and a bull trout inside of 2 hours.

Start picking rivers higher up in the mountains. Water temps are starting to soar, and some central ab rivers are deathly low.

Any chance you want to share a good mountain stream with someone new to the sport?

You'll hear it time and again but it honestly is the truth. Find a small sized creek on a map or in Barry Mitchell's book and do some hiking. It may sound like people are just tight lipped and don't want to share, which often times is the truth, but put in the effort and you will be rewarded with your own secret paradises

Because times are tough - gas is expensive - my favorite line lately is "I won't tell you, but if you drive and bring the lunch I will show you."
