Well after trying 4 different powders and three different bullets, here's what I've come up with;

H4350, I haven't found a combo for it in my rifle yet.

RL22 and a 160gr accubond, still needs some working up but @ 56gr and right around 2800fps it's looking promising. I think it just needs a bit more powder and my groups will tighten up.

H4831 and a 140gr BST, One of the most consistent loads speed wise and very accurate, definatly a dependable load but at 59gr with the 140gr tip was only clocking 2915fps. If I can bump the speed up to the 3000fps mark it would be a killer load.

IMR4831, Fast and Accurate, but quite a big difference in speed. At 58gr it was producing speeds up to 3100fps, but averaging about 3064 with a 140gr BST. I'm going to try a load of about 58.3gr and see if that will stay accurate and I will make sure the powder weight and coal are accurate (not that I don't already) to see if this will cut down the speed variation. Out of the powders I've tried in the 280, this one seems the most promising. I'd still like to find some RL19 and give that a shot, pun intended.

Note:
None of these loads have shown any pressure signs in MY rifle.
All groups are 3 shot groups.

Default Imr 4831 and Ballistic tips

It appears the IMR4831 and Nosler 140 grain Ballistic tips will make a nice ''deer load'' for you. I would hope and pray you would go with a bullet with better construction for the elk and moose though. Accubonds?

Lol, my goal is to build up a 2950fps+ load for the 160gr accubonds for my moose and elk hunting. 90% of my moose and elk hunting is done with a 310gr ACC topped with a 100gr T3, I very rarely hunt moose or elk with a rifle to begin with. If I can accomplish this with the 160gr accubonds I think my 300 magnum will just become a novelty item.

Some of my 7mm Rem. Mag. loads with 160's go 2950. I have one 7mm I load for only does 2865! Moose still turn up dead though!

I have a feeling high 2800's might be the best I'll get out of the 280, but I'm willing to try all my options to find the top load I can make for it. After I get the 160's figured out it'll be time to make up something in the 120gr range for some flat out speed.

Thanks, it's satisfying when you can get a fast and accurate load made up, especially when you can make them for cents a round rather than dollars!

Funny how the Mark V Accumark is considered over priced and inaccurate. I think it's the 1-1/2" MOA guarantee that gives people the impression they're inaccurate. I have two and both will shoot 1/2" MOA.
