My old Skandic blew up!!
Had the kids out on the trapline a couple weeks ago for one last fishing trip and to ride some trails. The old Skandic stopped running for my 14 year old. The track wouldn't move. So I loaded it up and drug it back to the truck with the new Skandic. Impressive by the way
Anyways I got a call from Martin equipment where I took the sled and they said they won't fix it.
It has a Broken Drive gear busted in half and the splines twisted on the Drive shaft.
I am not at all a mechanical guy. Is this worth pursuing to fix? How Much?
Why would they not want to fix it?
I assume it will cost more than it is worth?
I think it is a 96 or 98 so it is older.
May be time to look for a new back up machine. Anyone know what this thing is worth and if it is worth selling?

If I understand what parts are broken availability may be slim and parts are worth more than the sled. Riverside had a sign up a while back claiming they won't fix machines older than X (can't remember the years ). Good news is that those sled parts are similar on a lot of skidoo models . If you do the work yourself I'd say it's worth it but not at shop rates.

Go used parts, shaft and gear prob get it for $100, minimal labor.
I'd fix for you if it was't an 8 hr drive.

Sounds like the jack shaft that runs through the front of the track failed and took out a gear in the chain case. Check with some wreckers, not a big technical job, juts takes some time if i am assuming this is what is wrong.
They probably don't want the hassle of searching used parts, never know what you get and they have to warranty the work. That being said, it's been a slow repair season for them, surprised they didn't take the job and see what they could find for parts.
Canadian Motor Sports in Edmonton, Recycle in St Plain are places to call. Go on line to Sled parlor, he lists the machines he has in stock for used parts.

Yep like others have said you'll need a new chain case and drive shaft. If the chain case really piled up you'll need a jack shaft too. With bearings for new equipment you'd be at least a grand. Labour would involve dropping the rear suspension to pull the drive shaft. Pulling the old chain case, removing the secondary clutch to pull the Jack shaft. And the rebuild. In other words at least another $1000 in labour. Shops won't install used parts, they don't make any money on the mark up.
I'm sure if you told the shop you wanted to spend a couple grand on the machine they would have likely done it. If I remember from your pictures though that sled is older then 98, and it likely isn't worth what the new parts are.

Anyone want to make me a fair offer on what it's worth. It was a great machine until this happened. Starts real good. What's it worth in this shape?

Nube, done those repairs before, to start with on a machine that old parts are going to be hard to find, unless off another machine, I have a 2004 Tundra, if compatible (will ask my know it all ATV / Sled mechanic son) - will make you an offer. Can you confirm the year?

Not really anything nube. We ended up giving ours away for parts a few years back. They are great machines tho.

It's still at the shop. I wouldn't know how to even find out what year it is. I was given it by the last trapper as part of the deal. I think he figured it was a 96 or 98. I will see what I can figure out when I pick it up.

You can find the year by searching the database with the VIN. The dealer should be able to help you out with that.

Honestly if you part it out you might get $600-$800 maybe. Repairs at a shop would be more then the sled is worth.

Just what I thought Tork. I figured if I could get $500 I would be happy with that and just move on. I should have a reliable backup sled and should move on I figure. Or I should get the citation 300 back out of the shed lol

Burn the citation. Pick up a 2005-2010 tundra for $4000-$5000 and you're all set. They will start even at -50 and there's not much on them to break. Or get another Skandic

I have a 2001 XLC 700, but I run the '92 Indy Lite 340 on out line, always starts.

Pity about your sled Phil. At least your 14 yr. old made it back to camp ok. Finding parts for older equipement can be a real problem sometimes. The time and money spent to get it going again might be better used towards another used one. I have a feeling that there will be some real good deals on sleds, quads, boats,etc. in the near future. Nube had same problem when pulling last marten traps, hit large chunk of ice. My Polaris Indy is so reliable, only had spark plugs, belts and skags over last 5 years. I am taking chance doing rebuild shaft cost $90 and upgrading by adding reverse gear drive box for $500. Will let you know how it works out.

Don't have much for pics. Here is one I found from last year.
I think I will make some phone calls and see what I can do about it. It it's going to be a pain I will just get rid of it for someone who wants a project

Found a guy that says he will fix it. Thanks to Sooners suggestion. He says he has some parts and if the years match he can do the job for a reasonable amount. If in the end he can't then I have a few guys that want it. Fingers crossed

That is a 1995 Skandic sport (narrow track), I used to have one just like it. Great sled and it shares lots of parts with other Skidoos from that time period so spares shouldn't be too had to find. Here is a photo of my old one:
