Default 2014 hunting

Here are some pictures from my 2014 hunting season, (that I brought a camera along for);

Grizzly bear encounter during northern Manitoba Caribou hunt in September;
This bear because of a threat to us was relocated by the Manitoba F&W officers, they estimated it over 900 lbs. When he posed for me at about 75 yards away, he stood atleast 9 feet tall on his back legs. A warning shot pass his head (after already shooting the wolf that was standing beside him) did not phase him one bit.

This wolf was travelling with the grizzly bear; When I shot the wolf it did not phase the bear at all, I thought at first the bear was going to eat the wolf when it was lying there beside him.

Passed on this one early in the hunt;

First one harvested on day 2, no pics of second one I harvested on day 4.

My sons Mule deer in November;

Greywolf, did you go outfitted in MB? I have some buddies out that way and would like to convince them to make a go of it.

Yes, Munroe Lake Lodge.
But with proper gear and a plane ride it could be easily done unguided, Manitobians do it every year.

Exactly. I am trying to convince them that this is worth looking at for themselves. Thanks for the info.

Nice bou. I am envious and may have to look into that lodge. Can I be rude and ask roughly what the bou hunt cost? Seeing that Grizz up close and personal like that must have got the blood moving a little quicker.

Blake, (dbllung) from Peace River as well was up there this year too. He may be a good resource for the details.
Munroe charged $6995 + tags + tax for the trip.
So about $8500 + your trip expenses.

I don't think you can 'buddy hunt' / hunter host in Manitoba ... something to check into.

Wasn't saying that I was going to be there, not sure that I said that anywhere. I am just trying to get them to look outside their norm. They have talked about hunts to other destinations, but why when you have some great opportunities in your own backyard. Lived in MB for almost 20 years so I know the regs pretty well, there is no hunter host, you are a resident or non-resident, residents can get 2 tags annually on a first come first served basis, no draw. Us non-residents must be guided.

Very nice animals,

Manitoba sure does have some beautiful country up that way.

Congratulations on your year!

Manitoba has some nice country all over the province. We just don't have the majestic mountains that AB has.

Every once in a while a grizzly wanders in from the west. Not many people get to see them so you are most fortunate.

Manitoba Residents are the only ones who can hunt caribou in Manitoba without an outfitter. All others must book through an outfitter.

I believe those are barren ground grizzlies and it's quite rare to see one from what I understand.. I was up there in 2013 hunting Caribou...

Nice caribou you killed... I assume you saw quite a few nice bulls. Manitoba might be the best place to hunt Caribou these days.... Lots of critters and very, very little hunting pressure.

That's a beautiful wolf as well......

You know what they say, don't shoot the first nice one you see, lol.
These bou are the Central Barren Ground Caribou.
The longest guide up there this year was on year 5, and this is the first grizz he has seen.
Believe it or not, they actually had a Polar Bear come through a few years ago while they were there..
Thx Phil

Yikes! Must have pooped your pants a bit when the grizz held his ground!

Maybe a throwback to some old Disney movie and the bear/wolf were buddies or something...

Looks like a good hunt and some impressive additions to the Man Cave...congrats.

Thanks,
Within easy reach we did see approx 50 -75 bou a day, glassing further out, 2 - 3 km we probably seen double that.
The CO officers mentioned barren ground "tundra" grizzly.
