Default Snows Are Here

Although the lakes are still frozen over the first flocks have shown up in southern Ab.

Think they’re here to stay or going to push back south with the upcoming cold snap?

No snows here yet, but plenty of Canada geese paired up in the standing water in the fields. They are going to have a tough time in a few days, when the water freezes over.

It will be like water off a ducks back, They will hardly notice. Unless the food sources are covered up for a week or so.

Had to go for a short drive today, saw all 3 kinds of geese, few swans and ducks. They were packed in tight on a few sloughs with some shallow water in them, a dugout, and all along a frozen runoff creek. Likely 15k birds on 2 sections of land, predominantly honkers. Nice to see, and they are about right on time wise, for when they shud be showing here.

There is one massive flock just north of Warner. There is open water there. Most of the lakes farther north where the birds frequent are still frozen.

Everything is still frozen solid up here. Guessing it'll be a couple weeks before we start to see them.
Can't wait though!

Saw piles of snows and Canada's on the trip through southern Sask and Manitoba on Tuesday, a couple fields were white with them.

I saw them as well. Spring is really here when they show up. I am getting ready to plant the garden in mid May around the 12th. I think

Across the road from my place yesterday, the first time I've seen swans this far west.
