I think you may need access with permission only signs and a phone number. Not that all users will call but most would.

Sounds like you have a sweet parcel of land. Too bad some people feel it is theirs to do as they please as well. Damn the rules.

Land use is a slippery slope.

Once you let ANYONE on or through your property it's just a matter of time before you find tree stands, cameras, carcasses and hear gun shots.

Quite Sad. Our property is posted "NO TRESSPASSING PRIVATE PROPERTY" and 99% of the problems associated with limited use access have disappeared.

Not too special but nice enough. Increasingly rare I suppose as lakeshore gets subdivided and urbanized. Its a short walk from one of the oldest rv resorts in Alberta so I grew up with families coming onto the land to fish the creek or just go for a walk. Never any trouble (from the resort users).

Being polite to people who already don't respect property rights is an absolute waste of energy. Your civilized "polite Canadian" attitude is ripe for abuse.

The kind of people you are trying to disuade from coming on your land only understand one thing. Consequences. Swift, harsh and expensive consequences.

In this country you gotta get creative

Multiple game cameras, to catch poachers (hope you record a license plate)
Vehicle traps at gates (expensive but if you are desparate.....)
Keep bees at the spots people keep camping at (keepers are always looking for land to park their hives at)
Keep livestock in the areas people camp (the poop deters them)

You get the idea

I like 'Beware of the dog".

It keeps people guessing which dog to watch.

I got a few of the “Use Respect” signs. Have yet to post them all. There is a space on them to write contact information. Not comfortable doing that at the moment because the place is vacant most of the year. (Maybe an e-mail address would be better?) On a couple signs I’ll use the contact space to write in “Hiking Only at own risk”.

In the spring we noticed that a few large old spruce trees near the cabins were taken down for firewood. (I wouldn’t be surprised if more were taken along the shoreline which is all forested). Also someone drove around the cabins in a side-by-side. By itself that’s no big deal but then they ploughed over some of our planted hawthorn trees in order to drive onto the neighbouring property. Shows a lot of ignorance by the atv driver.

I once saw signs that said, in effect, “Entry beyond this gate by written permission only. Trespassers will be severely dealt with.” There was a contact name and number. Posted conspicuously at all access points, with no hunting/no trespassing signs every few hundred metres. Awesome spot for bighorns, pheasants and huge muleys on the breaks of the Fraser. The fellow was not opposed to hunters, just wanted to know who was there.

Interesting US article:

What are you buying when you buy riverfront property? - National Organization for Rivers

February 04, 2014

Some riverfront landowners bring an urban mindset to owning property on a river:The notion that
everything within the perimeter of a property is private, and any use of it by outsiders would be trespassing.
...

Even if local property law says that private property extends to the middle of the river, or all the way across the river, federal law still says that private ownership of the bed and banks of a navigable river is “a bare technical title,” always subject to public rights to use the river and its banks. Meet Pete
So what’s the right attitude to have as a riverfront landowner? Pete from North Carolina is a great example. Pete purchased...”

Perhaps change the wording to "You People" with a picture of Don Cherry.

Under the picture it could read Please Stay Off This Private Property" or something to that effect.

Scanned what seemed like thousands of google images and not surprisingly the only half friendly, half decent signs are Canadian (one in Sask. and the one above in B.C.) or British.

* twice now that I know of. And in the fall neighbour's in the cottage subdivision next door called telling us about a hind of a moose left behind (causing their dogs to repeat lay run over to it) and a young one left behind. Give an amateur a rifle... :-(

I could do the orange paint on the fence post thing but...

You aren't going to be able to co very that at all in a sign.
Just put up a no trespassing sign and do t get mad at hikers and fishers

Pretty much had to do that. Used a bunch of those odd combined: “No Hunting No Trespassing” signs.
