Default Come Along Winch

Looking for a decent one, based on reviews there seems to be a lot of junk out there. Any recommendations?

For heavy pulling a Jack-all makes about the strongest come-along type winch. There are gas and electric powered winches that work very well, for manual however the choices are far more limited. Anything with the ability to pull more than a few feet at a time are not all that robust, or at least none I have ever seen. Will be interested to see if anyone knows of better quality long pull ones.

P.S. Googled it and found this but have never seen one.

Have the Wyeth-Scott 2 ton model and it works great for pulling the beaver felled black poplar trees out of my trout pond. Am going to upgrade and get the 4 ton model though.

Have been stuck hard enough I needed to double line my 9000 lb Warn to get the truck out. Would not budge on single line. Have you ever used your Wyeth to pull out a really stuck, heavy vehicle?

I just ordered a 1500 lb rope along from Amazon. I carry them on my skidoo in the winter time. They are a continual pull unit...no cable wrapping around a drum like the old come alongs. They work great.

No, I haven't pulled anything but trees out of my pond and I doubt that they weighed more than a thousand pounds. The model that I have just has the one snatch block and fifty feet of cable. I doubt that their biggest model and two snatch blocks would be able to duplicate what a big electric warn winch with two snatch blocks could do though.

For pulling out vehicles, Tirfors are a lot handier than come-alongs. Usually 100' of cable although you can go longer. You can also use them with a snatch block. http://www.tractel.com/ca/series.php?id_serie=47

I had the big one with 35' steel cable and it dragged my titan out of a very soft spot. It grew legs and disappeared while I was filling up at the gas pumps a while ago. I bought it in Houston TX, a few years ago. It works really good with a snatch block.

My brother was an iron worker. They used to use them to pull bridges into place. You can easily lift the back end of truck right off the ground with these units

Yeah, they're pretty common in industrial construction. Expensive, but cheap at auction. For hand rigging in buildings, they can't be beat. Anchor them on the ground and set up a few snatch blocks and you can move steel, pipe spools etc. around where you want them. Good rigging is an art and skill.

Default Good looking Come Along, but get a TIRFIR!!!

I bought a TIRFIR from a Company Receiver for $200 with along new cable.

Probably too heavy a pull, but you never regret too much pulling ability.

Truck, Bison, whatever, the TIRFIR will move it.

As for the Come Along, it does look way better than all the junky ones I've ever seen, but if you really need to pull something more than a few feet, you will not regret getting the TIRFIR.
