Ruger #1 ... favourite, obscure, wish list... let’s see ‘em and hear about it

I have wanted a Ruger #1 a long time and just never picked one up.
Lately I’ve been thinking it would make for a really interesting 20ga slug gun (not sure any bigger ga would work). Or maybe something like 45-70, 50-70, or a 500 S&W would be enjoyable to pack around the cutlines.

Every time I’ve seen a 9.3x74 show up on CGN I almost buy my first and I don’t know why I hesitate

So, what do you have? Let’s see ‘em.

I have a 6.5x55 rsi, it is a beautiful light rifle in a great classic cartridge. I am thinking of selling it, so i can fund my unicorn if/when I find it.

I currently have two Ruger #1's in the AH configuration, one in 303 British and one in 243 Winchester. I had a #1B in 280 Remington but let it get away when cash was tight. A deceased friend had a few very scarce ones in his collection one being a very early 222 Remington of which he was most proud.

It is no secret that II have a real affinity for No.1's, I have been shooting them and trading /selling them since 1982, and have owned all of the different models in a pile of different cartridges and re-barreled a pile of them into other cartridges as well!
Among my favorites was the 7X57RSI that now resides at Dick284's place, an Anschutz/Krupp barreled 308 in 1B with a Canjar trigger , a 6MMBR that had a RKS barrel on it, and my 280 Remington come to mind right now.
Two that I owned and competed with that were "1TON guns" that I owned. These were 22 pound Fclass open rifles of which only nine were built The first one I had was in 6mmBR and was crazy accurate to 1K, the other was in 308 and that one as well was very accurate.
These rifle were a combined effort of Ed Begg of V Bull Precision, Mick McPhee , and Paul Reibin of Rangesports Unlimited.
Ed did the CNC machining of the all aluminum forends, Mick did the barrel work, and Paul made the butt stocks.
These things were very nice match rifles, but lack the soul of a nicely built hunting rifle

My all time favorite Ruger is not actually a number one, but a Number3!

The only difference in the 1 and 3 actions is the lack of a fixed trigger guard and the opening lever, everything else is identical.
The barrel configurations and wood of course are different as well, but the action itself is virtually the same, with internal parts interchanging.
This rifle is nothing like any factory Ruger available
The Zeiss QD rings allow me to take off the scope and use the express sights at will, the scope returns to zero reliably every time when reinstalled.

Thanks Sns2, yup, that rifle goes through some thick stuff every year, but I don't trick it like a crowbar either! LOL
even my finest guns hunt as you know, I couldn't own a hunting rifle or shotgun that was so pretty I was afraid to hunt with !

I have a 275 Rigby, it’s my main hunter, that and my 1885. . I also have a No3 in 22 Hornet. I just about pulled the pin on a 303 when Prophet had them wish I did. That would be my want No1 now.

I have four. Next one might be a 1-AH in .240 Wby
These are(bottom to top) 1-S in 44 Mag
1-S in 35 Wh
1-A 24" in .250 Savage
1-A in .275 Rigby.
It really hopes when my LGS is likely one of the better sources of No.1's in Canada.

There is a No.3 with a custom stock in CGN's EE right now, and in the only caliber I'd like a No.1/No.3 in=218 BEE. I love varmint rounds, varmint rifles, and for a gun that wouldn't see a ton of use, I think hand loading a more obscure caliber would be fun.

However...the asking price puts it way out of range for me.

I’ve owned several Ruger # 1s :

45-70. Punishing on both ends
17 Remington that had a Shilen Barrel wish I still had that one
6 mm rem
6mm atlas (6mm -264)
6mm ackley

The only one I still have is the ackley . Cool rifles , the older series used to have nice wood , the newer ones not so much

I forgot about a #1 in 250 savage . I put a stainless barrel on that, I don’t recall which brand . That is a very much over looked cartridge !!

It did have nice wood .It was an A series . I came to realize with that gun how underrated 250 -3000 really is. Too bad it became overshadowed by the 243 .

I was hopeful I would get that rifle back about a year ago but it didn’t happen .
