Scope for under 1k
Looking for a buddy of mine, he wants a scope under $1000 and up to approx x18
I think for him he should stay in SFP as that is all he has ever used.
He is a casual hunter ie goes out couple times a year but it isn't is avid pursuit at the moment.
Currently have the vortex hst 6-24 as the number one option. Also looking to buy in next couple days and local to Edmonton or shipped here fairly quick
Thanks

Under a $1000.00 covers a lot of ground in the scope world.
If his budget is around a thousand, maybe have a look a Sightron.

meopta and bushnell elite
both have superb glass and coatings, and fit and finish compared to anything in their price range.

Yeah sorry so in that upper range not like 400. So lets say 700-1000 but with those parameters

Maybe a vx3. 4.5-14.
18 top end is a lot of magnification for $1000 if you want quality. Probably something in the vortex line.

I second the VX-3. I've got a few of them in different magnifications. A good quality simple scope.

My first pick is def Leupold
And there’s lots of choices for under $1000. Do your research with the options. Best warranty, I think. Lifetime parts and labour. Service depot is in Okotoks. I dropped my rifle once while hunting, put a dent in the tube. Test fired it and it was still under an inch. Sent it to the warranty depot, they replaced the tube, charged me $80 all in. Had it back within 7 working days.
If buying a Leupold privately, be very careful, there’s some identical knockoffs coming out of China. Really hard to identify, Google is your friend.
Read lots of reports of people being disappointed with vortex. There’s likely lots of happy ones too. But I can’t ever remember reading a bad report of Leupold, they’re out there I’m sure.
Got a $600 Nikon a few years back. Had it on a 17Hornet. Within 500 rounds the crosshairs came loose. Warranty is 5 yrs. After that parts only.

I am a Leupold fan boy, but every time I look through a Sightron I am more impressed.

I do not have much to add in terms of scope suggestions, but if your friend is a casual hunter, I would recommend something more in the 3-10x or 4-12x over a 6-24x scope.
I find that 6 power as a lower end magnification is way too high for general hunting purposes. Quick target acquisition will be a struggle for a casual hunter if he is stuck on 6x.
On the bright side, if $1000 is the budget, it gets you into some high quality 4-12x offerings.

Falcon optics from Frontier firearms works well, $500 range, and all sorts of options. Why not use FFP? it's easier not harder

Thanks for all the replies. Did some more searching, and in the end had decided to get a Leupold. As it would turn out apparently there seems to be a shortage of leupolds right now so I had a hard time finding much.
So ended up with a vortex hs-lr. Though I did take a look at some Sigs that I was impressed with.
Hopefully this suits his needs. And thank you all for your responses. And also for the pms on some used ones, if it was my money I would have gone for one of the used ones. Also I need to stop looking at scopes as it won't be healthy for my pocketbook.

I have a new Leupold VX Freedom 6-18x40, with CDS, Burris signature zee rings and alumina flip covers I'm selling but new, so I can't post in buy sell yet.
I'm in BC, bought new in December, never mounted. Was waiting for rifle, and when rifle showed up I decided to go a different route.
Paid $1180 plus taxes, will sell as set for $1000 Shipped.
