Default backing for fly reel

can a guy just use braided line as backing and if so what pound? i am using and learning everything on a 5w.....

txs everyone...

i just have so much braided line kicking around.

Pop into a fly shop, you can get braided backing material that is really cheap.

Best use actual fly line backing. I bought some Cortland 20lb at Bass Pros recently. I think I paid $8.99 for 100yds.
Best not to buy coloured braided line. I saw a guy who had put black braided line as backing and the colour leeched into the fly line.

Inexpensive and takes no time at all....you will be happier for it. Bass Pro, Fish Tales, Fishing Hole, WSS, Country Pleasures, Hansons, Bow River Troutfitters...they can all do it in a few seconds for you.
