Take kids shooting.
Today I took my oldest (16) and one of his friends shooting. The friend thought he might have shot a 22 sometime so this was a new experience for him. Perfect. Tyler wanted long range so that’s what we did.
Tyler shoots plenty so we set up the friend at 400 yds with the 223. After four shots and some dry firing to work on his trigger control we set him up with my medium 6.5 at 700 yards. The results are in the first video. The second video is Tyler starting a group with the 223 at the same distance.
The only way to convince kids to quit is to let them run you dry of ammunition. And my wallet hurts after today. And so do my barrels. :-)

Not bad, Chuck.
An experience far more memorable than a Saturday afternoon of X-box.
The wallet might hurt but it ain't nothing next to the happy ache of pride you feel in those boys.

Good on you Chuck. I have taken my kids and their friends pistol shooting on many occasions (that's my thing), and as you say, it hurts the wallet, but it's fantastic to teach them safety and responsibility. And when they punch a good group, hit that X, the smile is well worth the cost.

kids are impressive. I been doing the same with my 12 year old. So far we have been shooting 328 yards only.
yeah I agree with you - component prices are gone up. I ended up buying new 22lr and scope, we were able to hit the same distance, it was about 30MOA drop.
22lr allowed us to cool down barrels in between sessions and we got more trigger time.

Not gonna lie, I am jealous of the place you have to stretch a rifles legs. How large is the 700 yard gong?

I started my boys shooting 22’s at 6 yrs old. My oldest is boy is 10 and this will be his second year calling and shooting coyotes with his 243 and his 3rd year shooting clays with his M2. The 7 yr old is his second year shooting gophers and his first year shooting flats. Start em young and start em right!
