Exclamation bird dog kills hunter..

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Houston-area man was killed in a hunting accident after his dog stepped on a loaded shotgun in the back of a pick-up truck, triggering a blast that pierced the vehicle and the hunter's leg, a local sheriff said.

Perry Price, a 46-year-old math teacher, shot a goose on Saturday then put his gun in the back of the truck where the dog was waiting to retrieve the bird.

"I've been in law enforcement 20 years and this is probably the strangest one I've had," said Chambers County Sheriff Joe LaRive.

Investigators found paw prints and mud from the dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever named Arthur, on the shotgun, LaRive said.

Price was taken to a local hospital, but died from a loss of blood after doctors were unable to revive him.

Truely sad but haveing a loaded gun in a truck ready to fire is not a safe idea or a good idea as the hunter lost his life because the dog step on the gun and it went off what was he thinking we will never know .

first rule of hunting " treat every gun as though it is loaded" guess he should of taught that to the dog.

DERRRR typical yankees. I have heard of them putting down their guns to cross a fence or somthign and the dog steps on it causing a blast.

Always break your gun or open the action, whoa the dog, put the gun down, let the dog through then reload. I dont understand what the rush is.

Same with guys who run to their on point dogs I have heard of a cupple falling shooting themselves or their dog.

"Accident"? I don't think so; the dog was probably tired of doing all
the work,& never getting to keep the dang bird!!!

Let me guess, Dick Cheney was the dog!!!

On a more serious note, this just drives home the importance of overall gun safety
