Default Suggestions for a good pack rifle

Looking to get a new rifle. Someting light enough to pack around all day in the mountains, big enough to take down it all. Open to any and all suggestions of makes and calibers. What im using now is an old husky 30-06 GREAT gun but its a brick!

Wow that is a brick. I'd definitely look at the Tikka, Sako, Kimber and Browning X-Bolt....all make great mountain rifles. My choice for an all-round calibre would be 300WSM but I'm sure you'll get a million different thoughts on that. Get one that fits you well and you are comfortable shooting. Pretty sure my next mountain rifle is a Browning X-Bolt in .270WSM.

I used a Tikka T3 lite stainless synthetic in 300wsm this year in the mountains. Nice light accurate rifle.

i just bot one of these in 300wsm, 16" pipe and under 7# loaded its also 2" shorter than a factory 10/22. its loud it rude and rocks your world. but if your packing in and have to use it there is usually a good reason. only problem is its really only a 200yard tool.
its still lighter than my ultralite wby

how much are you willing to spend? Weatherby, browning and remington all make really nice titanium model rifles, but they are pricey. Sako has thier finnlight, ruger has their short barrel rifles.
The best bang for the buck is probably Tikka's T3 lite though if you want to spend well under $1000. Around 6 lb and pretty much any popular caliber you want.

I've picked up the Ruger Compact in 7mm-08 for my wife because the weight was really an issue for her. For a scope I've put on the Ultralight VX-II 3x9-33mm. With scope mounted the rifle is less than an ounce over the 6lb. mark. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but with the mild weather, I'm hoping to this weekend....

I've got a 270 remington titanium with a six power scope and it weighs out at 6lbs 10oz. It's shooting really good to. I can place a quarter over the grouping at 100 yrds. With scope and rifle it was about $2000.
