Default Best place to buy RCBS Chargemaster?

I may break down and buy one of these. They seem brutally expensive up here. Does anyone have a good source?

Chuck i cant believe you dont already have a chargemaster. I bought mine from Cabelas as part of the rockchucker supreme reoading kit. At the time i think i paid about 850 for the kit. As far as buying the chargemaster by itself you will need to really shop around as prices vary from place to place significantly.

I purchased one in Canada, and another one from Natchez. At the time, the Canadian dollar was stronger, and I saved about $200 compared to buying one in Canada, but with the weaker Canadian dollar, the savings will be less now.

+1 on Natchez shooting supplies. My chargemaster actually crapped out and I took it apart, voiding my warranty probably to see what's inside. Nothing. Very simple machine. Not sure why they are so exspensive. I replaced it with a Hornady equivillant for 150 usd, they are on sale. It's probably sitting in customs right now.

Chuck

Dante has the Hornady equivalent for $300 Cdn, most of the CDN RCBS are 490 or more that I have seen recently. Natchez, who is still $259 U.S. so 349.65 Canadian is still the cheapest.

Just as an aside, I have owned both the RCBS and the Lyman. Sold both of them. I can throw loads way faster with a Lyman 55, even if I have to trickle when using large kernel powder. With ball or small Kernel the Lyman 55 throws as accurate as the electronic version and much faster.

I can definitely throw charges quicker with a measure, but while the Chargemaster dispenses a charge, I am seating a bullet and putting the loaded round in an ammo box. I don't just sit there and watch the Chargemaster work.

Using that system you are right that the Chargemaster would not be a hindrance to speed of production. Personally, I much prefer to do all of one function at a time, size, prime, charge, seat. If I load progressive style I do that on the Dillon 550. It is WAY faster than any other form of hand loading. Even with rifle rounds, as long as you can use powder that throws well. I only use the Dillon on rounds that I load 200 or more at a time.

best place is to leave it on the shelf and buy the 10-10 next to it.

Hornady or Lyman or RCBS? Which is best value. They all seem to be accurate to +/-.1 grains...

I have used the Lyman, as well as the RCBS, and I much prefer the RCBS. I have not used the Hornady.

I did the upgrade on my chargemaster to speed it up and it is sooo much faster. Now it starts to trickle at a 1/2 gr down from the charge. I have compared my chargemaster to my 5 0 5 and 10 10 scales and it is bang on.

I had a Lyman Gen 6 I used for 2 weeks. to clean and wandered so much you were calibrating it every 5 loads. Took it back and exchanged it for a CM1500 and it is fantastic. Bang on with my 505 and I seldom calibrate it.
Wrote the pan weight on the bottom of pan and every time I lift it off, it notes the - weight on the scale. Easy to see if it wanders. Most times doesn't even need to be calibrated after first turning it on. Pan weight checks perfect at least 95% of the time. Use the straw method, and just ordered the brass inserts to make overthrows non existant.

That new Chargemaster mini, or lite, or whatever they call it might be a good alternative for people looking for the first time. I believe it is intended to cost less.....

Default RCBS Chargemaster and Rockchucker Supreme

I recently ordered a new Rockchucker Supreme kit for my oldest son. On arrival from my favourite store, PROPHET River, I was a little concerned as the outer box was a little worse for wear. I removed the scale supplied, Model 500 and checked it out with my CHARGEMASTER. Unbelieveable, Bang-on over and over. I would never be without my CHARGEMASTER. Last nite we unpacked the ROCKCHUCKER. What a beautiful press!

Nice job, Bulletman. Your son is a fine young man and he comes by it naturally. The apple usually falls pretty darned close to the tree.

Trust me guys, the Bulletman has three three fine kids.
