Personal Best
The weather not nice today but I was in the zone! I set a personal best for group size at 500 yrds (determined by a RZ600 Leupold range finder). My goup measured around 3 inches for 5 shots. I think It would be closer to 2.5 center to center. So to my way of thinking I just shot a 1/2 moa group at 500!!!!! I am pretty darn happy about it.
I decided that I am going to shoot in F Class this year. I dont expect to win but I dont think I will look foolish out there so I am happy about that.
I was using my Tikka 308 shooting 155gr SMK at around 2740 fps using lapua brass. Scope is my Vortex Razor HD II 4.5-27
I have been practicing useing some of the Techniques from this Video, they have been very helpful.

Grs
I am extremely happy with it. It is exceptionally comfortable. I find it has helped me with my trigger pull. The canted hand grip takes pressure off my wrist and makes for a consistent position for my thumb.
I like it so much that I bought a second one for the gun I am going to use in F Class. Its a grey laminate Hybrid.
Did you get a chance to check out that video? I would be interested to hear what people think of that kind of instruction.

Good job Mark. I don't shoot distance, but I can imagine holding 1/2 MOA is a challenge.

Thanks. I have seen the type of groups you post and I am sure you could do the same.
I can usually shoot 4 or 5 inches when i go out. Today was special. I really slowed down and concentrated on natural point of aim today. Luckily the wind stayed pretty constant around 10-12 mph almost directly across (180 degress)
PS. A Kestrel wind meter is definately your friend

Great shooting markg. I am a bit confused though. You mention that the wind was directly across (180 degrees). To my understand, directly across would be 90 degrees, left or right, thus full value. On the other hand 180 degrees would mean directly into at your back, a zero value wind. Which was it?

That's a good video. I like the idea of closing and opening the eyes to find the natural poa. I was always taught to shoot at the bottom of your breath but timed on the trigger to pull when you reach it. I will try the half and hold next time I'm at Milo.

What kind of drift did you see with the 308 in the crosswind at 500 yards?

I watched the first couple minutes, seems on point.
And Costa knows how to shoot, and isn't a " bad" instructor. He's just arrogant, from what I've heard.
Not sure about that Caylen guys' credentials, but Chris spoke highly of him.
Good vid on mastering the basics.

Thanks my math skills suck. Did you know the 4 out of every 3 people struggle with math, and I am one of those.
The wind was bascially going directly across my shooting path, so at my 3:00 hope that helps.
I needed about 1.4 mills of windage and 3.1 mils of Elevation. I use iSnipe it makes getting on target a bit easier.

Wasn't trying to correct your math markg. I just wanted to get it clear in my mind. No matter your match skills, your shooting certainly doesn't suck.

Great shooting.
I thought that the 155smk would be faster in velocity. I get 2695fps with 178 Amax and varget, close to max load from Lyman loading manual. I'm shooting a TRG with 26 inch barrel.
What powder are you Using?

Varget
I am shooting 45.5 grains of Varget. The reason my velocity is slow is the factory barrel on the tikka CTR compact is only 20 inches. I Got the recipe off of http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/308win/
For safety sake always go 10% lower and work up.
It's a fairly standard competition load. I switch between 155 SMK and the 155 Lapua scenars. There is a point of impact shift at that distance but on my rifle the 100 yrd zero is very close.
I use Lapua Brass as well. My dies are Redding competition with the micrometer seating die and my runout is very minimal (around 1/1000th). I am very fussy about powder measuring. I double measure all my loads. I use a lab radar chrono and and found that that load usually has an extreme spread of less than 15 fps and the average is 2740. That's the number I put into my ballistics calculator to get on target. I use a Kestrel to determine wind. My ballistics calculator has the pressure and altitude.
I should also note that this is a personal best. I don't get groups like this every time I go out. My hope is that I will see more like this one now that I have some trading in natural point of from the video.
