According to the farmer’s almanac ice thickness safety chart, 10 inches of ice will support 3.5 tons and 12 inches will support 8 tons.

Lots of cracks with slush/water around them still... fished in the deep water a few times this week and only had 9-10”. Still only quad or sled worthy ice. The bite for whites has been slow this early still, managed 3 fish in the last couple mornings.

Just want to make sure that the 3 fish you caught were whitefish ? I just live 10 km east of pigeon lake. Don’t want to alway go to Gull or Sylvan lake getting some whitefish. Thanks a lot if you can reply.

Yes they were whites. It’s basically all I chase during the winter. Smallest so far was 3’15oz... I live only a few miles east of the lake so I’m pretty lazy when it comes to going anywhere else to fish. Lol

I went out yesterday for the evening. Caught 3 after 5 didn’t see any fish before that. 13 inches of ice there were a few vehicles and trucks on the ice. I had issues packing all my gear off the lake, with the vehicles that I’d seen I drove out about 300 yards loaded up and off the lake. Didn’t have any troubles.

We were out last Sunday. We measured 10.75-11.25 inches of good ice with 1-1.5 inches of frozen slush (white ice). There were 3 half tons on the ice but I don't drive on until there is 12 inches of good (black ice). kind of thought that if the nights stayed cold it might be good to go this weekend. Fishing was very slow.
