Sale resumes at 1:30 Toronto Time

Wolverine first then coyotes. Auction folks claim a great deal of interest in the coyotes

Prices look to be down from Feb as usual... kind of different this time though... Top end stuff was good and bottom end stuff was ok but the middle sucked. The seconds II from $49 to $110 but mostly in the $60 range.

I compared my lotting letter against the Feb sale prices and it would have been $115ish US... this sale looks to be roughly $95ish US

Just like APA my ave is 95$ US , exchange will help so Canadian should be around 120 - 125 depending on rate . Yes first sale is always the best for me. No complaints here , but a little confused by all my number II s..

Yup, same as what APA said. Higher end pelts, and II's that had a 1-4 clarity, were 20% to 30% lower but the 3-4's were $50 higher. Same grade that only got $13 last auction got me $67 this auction. Maybe the remarks column will tell the tale.

I bettered my average and I'm happy with the end result. It's just funny how it seemed to even out.

I still have two coyotes that are MIA that never got graded in time I guess.

A couple of questions for those in the know...

First, I often hear mention of the Top Lot and being up North where we have the darker coyotes...I realize that I'll never be fortunate to see one of those...
But looking at the sale, I'm just curious...those 8 yotes that sold at 500 US (lot 328901) would be the only 8 coyotes that get top lot status? Or does Top Lot signify something more?

And secondly, is it generally the case that the descending order of the lots that follow reflect the quality/grade of those lots? The higher up on the page means higher quality...and as you get deeper into the lower lots, the quality lessens?
It seems that would be the obvious answer but I'm always confused by how the prices seem to jump all over the place...1/3 of my furs high...then a bunch that show a significant drop in price...then a bunch back up there again....

I realize that primeness, clarity, colour all affect prices...but wonder if this could also be a result of the auction bidding process...

Yes those 8 coyotes are the only ones that get Top Lot.. thats it thats all.

The reason you see the prices jump around is that the lots are listed in ascending order starting with - best grade - Best color - FOR 1-2 Clarity.

Once it has gone down the list of grades and colors for 1-2 it goes too Best grade - Beast color - FOR 3-4 Clarity... this is where you see the jump in price. A *SEL GC 1-2 really isn't much different than a *SEL GC 3-4 just a little darker on the belly.

With Coyotes its Grade gets you paid... SEL and I

Was quite happy with my results on this sale. Just over 40 dogs with an average just over $100 US.

Thanks APA,
Finally, this is starting to make sense to me...
I had a cluster of *1's and * SEL halfway down my listings...but now understand (I think) that this is due to their colour and clarity.
I'm more than happy with how my northern bush coyotes sold this auction. Averaged just under 110$ US...hopefully the decent prices will hold for marten and fisher...

Very surprised with large number of marten and Fisher being offered (62,105/13,018) in this year May sale. Last year only 23,450 marten and 4,432 Fisher were offered. Their must have been very large "hold back" last year being offered now. I know most of us in Alberta did not ship them as ATA only shipped 2400 marten in April. Hope it does not hurt the prices tomorrow.

The marten are selling now... Sort of. Lots of labeled skins being bought back. The ones that sold, sold for good money but I'm not sure why there is a lack of interest in labeled skins? Hopefully they sell private treaty for decent money.

My thoughts... this sale was too late to house the whole entire winter collection of marten, buyers were getting plugged up both in the country and other sale??? Then a large collection shows up when money is tied up. The high end buyers as a rule seem to be fine with buying the best high quality XL goods but they then after were either wanting bargains or bargains.

I will try to ask some people for a later last receiving date for the first sale next year.

The top lot for marten went to Korea for $240 US and top lot for fisher to Greece for $102 US. The pelts that sold were for prices down from these numbers. Last year May sale top marten was $102 US and $64 US for fisher.
