Used mine for the first time today. It’s so easy…set up takes about two seconds. I couldn’t use the Magnetospeed on my semiauto handguns or tube fed lever rifles at all, the Garmin was a cinch. I’m thrilled. What a great piece of kit!

Sent 3 units to Ukrainian snipers- former sportsmen . They were absolutely happy with them! Said they need way more, but I do what I can afford

Default Caldwell Doppler chronograph

I see both Lab Radar & Caldwell have intoduced Chronographs in mini size.

Both are less $$ than Garmin, but I kinda doubt they will match Garmins quality

I repurposed an ammo can that I got at cabelas on sale for $4.99, used some foam packing that I had laying around and Bob's your uncle, nice neat little can with handle to pack it to the range and keep it from being banged around.

Question for all you trailblazers:

If you set the garmin up 100 meters from the firing line and pointed it at a target another 100 meters down range (total distance to target =200 meters), then shot your bullet 6 inches over the top or off to the side of the garmin, would it still trigger and thus give you a velocity reading for your projectile 100 meters from the muzzle?

Cheers,

Brobee

What purpose would that serve? All I have ever needed for my ballistics solutions is muzzle velocity.

It would let me figure out my own drag/velocity curves for bullets without a published BC.

The guy from Primal Rights? asked and may have done this test. You would need to set the Garmin at 80 yards because the rader picks up the projectile at 20 yards down range from the actual unit.

PS. the guy on primal rights does an awesome video on what the unit will actually do. He was able to pick up a .17 cal projectile at well over 5000 Fps.

- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.

I bought this little hard case from Amazon and it’s perfect for the Garmin.

That was super-helpful, thank you very much!

The case is rubber lined, and the webbing you see in the lid is also rubber. I have also put a block of foam at the head of it and I stick it in a sunglasses sleeve. I honestly don’t think much of that is necessary.

I just added closed cell packing foam to it. It now isn’t shifting at all.

Like this better. No shifting, even without the forward spacer.

Is the Labradar less money than the Garmin? Both appear to be the same price.

Default Garmin Case

https://www.amazon.ca/MEIJIA-Waterpr...48&sr=8-4&th=1

On Sale. I believe another member posted his Garmin in one of these. they come in various sizes.

I haven't checked that it fits perfectly because I am away working but the dimensions seem appropriate. Also, if you search GoPro cases on Amazon, there are several "softer" options.

Cheers

Tried mine out this morning, amazing and so easy to use. I’ve been using an early eighties Entry level Oehler previously. Easily worth the 800 bucks.

If you know muzzle velocity and bullet drop at a known distance you can calculate bc

I just ordered one of the Garmin units yesterday that I'll use my tax refund for. I've had one of the original Shooting Chrony units that I think is from the last 80s / early 90s. It was always a bit fussy, so I'm looking forward to replacing it and comparing previously recorded load data to see how close the old unit and new unit compare.

Old school lol.....

This made me laugh. I just gave away one of these and the slightly newer red version, and sold my Magnetospeed at a big loss after getting the Garmin. It hasn’t missed a shot, and I love the two second setup time. You will be thrilled.
