Default 50lb+ Pike caught in SA... Rumors or not?

I just recieved a photo of a MONSTER pike... Supposedly caught the other day in Southern Alberta... Rumors of 50lb+, and it sure looks like it.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

Here is the pic. If the guy who caught it is on this forum, its not my fault for posting it... If your mad, be more careful who you send pics to, as they are texted around like crazy. At least I had the consideration to remove the young man's face.

This pike is a BEAST! Wish she was still swimming around...

That's one heck of a pig for sure,, hard to tell how heavy but who really cares that doesn't change the fact it's a huge fish.

I was trying to bait the real fisherman, but if what Dr.D writes is true, it ain't likely to work.

Can't say I've ever iced a pike in AB.

It's been said that some anglers actually stuff a bunch of lead sinkers down into a fishes belly for various reasons. I would agree with others, you would need at least 15-20 lbs of lead to get the female over 50! Nevertheless, it's still a nice fish, I only wish it would of lived for another day.

Zip ....

I had another look, not a gaff hook ... small cal. bullet holes, it looks a bit like a gater, they shoot them first, then drag them in!

Zip ...

Well guys I didn't want this story to get leaked but sometimes its hard to keep a secret. I nailed this pig on Keho Lake on January 3rd. I came down there knowing that the new provincial record was in this lake. I took my good fishing buddy "Guitarplayingfish" with me and we hit the ice.

I had just purchased a few of those new iFishpro tip ups and wanted to use them really badly. We bought some extra large bait this trip and even used bingo dabbers to put red accents on them. This big ol' girl smoked one of the baits that was set bout 4' under the ice. The fight was long, with many runs ripping the 30# PP into my hands. Quite a mess still I might add.

She weighed in at 41.6 lbs...
