Default Deep water perch?

I've been watching fishing videos like some crackhead with an ethical addiction... I can't seem to turn off the YouTube lately. At any rate, I just watched a video of some American stereotypes out on Lake Erie jigging for perch in 55' of water and they were huge. Is that just a Lake Erie thing, or do the bigger perch in Alberta hang out way deep as well?

I've personally caught hump backs at badger in the deep, about 30-40 feet of water.
Location....... Secret.

Default Perch

I hit it pretty good sat and sunday. Caught 3 about 14" and over a lbs. All my fish came out of 35 FOW. Only certain lakes hold fish in 35 fow. For the most part I find it to be the lakes that have visibility for 15-20 + ft

Downside is that perch are extremely bad at deflating their air bladder. So a perch hauled up from 30 or 40 feet of water is basically a floater, no matter what size.

I was hammering some nice perch in 47 feet of water the other day in a lake by the battlefords. The trouble is that's the only place you can catch them in that lake, and as weird as it sounds we were pulling up some type of grassy weeds every once in a while. I have heard a few guys say before devils lake by Bonnyville died out you would catch them in that deep of water.

When Pidgon still had decent perch fishing we usualy caught them over deep structure in the 30-40' range. But yeah, they dont look so hot when they come up from that deep.

I always assumed it had to do with oxygen content wheather they would go deep or not, do lakes have a thermocline in the winter?
