Need help crapping..

OK so looking for recommendations/thoughts.

Up at the farm we have an rv. Go up every couple of weeks in the summer to mow lawn at the old yard site and fix an outbuilding or two etc. Over the fall/winter it is less frequent less hunting season of course.

Still waiting to get the right cabin but in the meantime started to once again look at crappers.

First instinct is an outhouse but somewhere over the last 20 years these have apparently turned into some sort of no-no requiring holding tanks and engineering consultants from what I can tell.

So that got me thinking about compost toilets, incinerating toilets and every other option that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Any of you guys have any suggestions/thoughts on the matter. Pros/cons etc.

Soo many different options, I was looking at them when I was going to buy a lakeside property. Sadly the deal fell through, but for me, I would get a solar composting toilette. Other options are endless, so have a look on YouTube and see what meets your needs. Good luck in your search.

I have a similar situation. I stayed away from composting because it will freeze in the winter and kill the bacteria. I went with an insinolet running on a 220 generator.

Still working on hooking it up.

Build a nice little storage shed with a hole in the ground that you like to go into once in awhile, who's gonna know?

Don't know the cost, but used the composting toilets while working up in northern Onterrible at an exploration camp. They used fresh wood shavings in it and once you finished, a hand crank would spin the drum. Never a whiff of anything but fresh cut wood, very impressed! Not sure how often the contents had to be changed out though.

My friend rented a place with a propane toilet, just emptied an ash tray occasionally.

Lots of people on youtube say the same . Simalar with potting soil . First i heard of the crank. Just cover your business . N good enough.

How many acres? I think once you are over 80 its alot less strict .

Depends on the county and proximity to property line. Most are 10 acres for full flow.
I think he's asking about no septic outhouse. people have been doing this forever....

1/4 section. I would rather go with an old fashioned outhouse but fear what the county will say so preparing for the worse

Auger a 20 or 24 inch holes 6 feet or more with a skid steer, then drop a little concrete to seal the bottom.
Done deal, outhouse bs is getting carried away.

I was at a cabin a few times that had an electric incinerator toilet/outhouse. I never used it as we were just out for the day but the people who did talked highly of it. It kinda had a funky smell if you were down wind when it was in the burn cycle but nothing like a outhouse smell. I think the wood chip idea or something similar would deal with the minimal smell quite easily.

We stayed at Blue heron cabins out of Massat in Haida Gwai They had composting toilet in the cabin. Absolutely no smell at all. Had a 5 gallon bucket of Peat Moss in bathroom and you just dumped a coffee cup full of Peat Moss down the hole after your business. Worked great

One more vote for an outhouse that looks like a shed. Is the county going to come around and make sure you're not poopin' in your shed?

I wouldn't ever own an incinolet. That smell makes me gag every time and if you've ever watched someone pull the ash pan on a windy day you wouldn't want one.

What I don't get with the composting toilet is:

What happens in the winter? Do they still work?
Is all the composting done in the holding bucket or do you have to move it to another location to compost etc.

Have to try and do some more research on these

I did a bit of traveling this summer. My wife wanted to meet Buffalo Joe so we did a trip to Yeller Knife. And she got her wish. She even had a nice chat with Joe. And we saw her favorite mechanic, Chuck, and we also saw Micky as well, but didn't get to talk to either of them.

But that's another story, what I wanted to say was, in our travels, and on other trips south doing business, I see outhouses still in use in public parks and at road side rest stops.

I know that outhouses have been foreboden in residential areas for a long time, but I wonder if it might be worth checking local regulations, just in case.

Unless you want an alternative. They can be nasty places on a hot day, and when the mosquitoes are hungry.

I always liked the idea of a compositing toilet. If that isn’t an option I’d probably just hurry a tank and have it pumped as needed or at the end of each season.
