Cabelas meat grinder question
Hey gguys who have the Cabelas carnivore meat grinders.
I have a 1HP and it is an amazing machine. But one issue has always driven me crazy.
On the back of the auger housing where the grinding screw meats the motor gear, there is a plastic bushing and I can not for the life of me get it out to clean behind.
Now, I have no idea if it even comes out, as there is nothing in the manual about it, nor on the interweb. But it sure leaves me a bit unsettled when I clean it and I have some dried bits left behind afterwards.
I'm sure this is a bit of OCD coming from my current occupation, but none the less.
Anyone know how to or it it is even supposed to be removed??
As amazing as the grinder is, this was one little pitfall that was not thought of during development.
I talked to the guys at the store and they said the same thing. "no idea"
Help?

I have considered this, but was worried that over time It would loose its strength and fail. And I haven't found if they make replacements for them.
Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a go and see what happens

The more important question is .......... is it designed (and supposed to be) removed?
I bet everything on that machine "comes apart" - but that definitely sounds like making it that much of a task isn't by design.

Not sure if it's meant to come out all the time for cleaning but it certainly does come out. I have the exact same one as you and after using it a couple times it was heating up bad( to the point where it started cooking the meat), it actually partly melted that plastic bushing which apparently is not a common problem... Anyway long story short the manufacturer sent me another one which was rather easy to change and haven't had an issue since. I have grinded a lot of meat since with no further issues, I bought extra freezer packs for the throat but now there is no big problem. It still gets warm after doing a lot of meat but not melting the bushing hot not sure what caused it. Anyway it does come out

Interesting. I have also had this experience. I chalked it up to the grinder head being too tight when I screwed it on. It's not constant, but yes, I too have this issue. I will give the warranty line a call for the extra part.

Good to know I'm not the only one lol... I just did like 100lbs of burger and made sausage with it and had no heating problems at all. Maybe like you said something was too tight or put in wrong I don't know but it does a great job ever since...

I also thought maybe I was tightening the nut to tight, I don't mind the smell of cooking hamburger, but I prefer it to be in a pan. Will also have to look into new bushing.

I think it was Calgary Chef from here who recommended a fibre washer instead of the plastic cheap one in the back. I changed mine out with a fibre washer from CTR and it works way better now no burnt meat yet.
