Default Fishfinder/flasher combo??

I am looking into stepping up my ice fishing game and would love a flasher. Question is...can i get a unit that will also serve as a fishfinder for my aluminum boat in the summer? if so which units would perform best? Thanks for any info in advance.

Marcum LX7

Lowrance HDS units

Humminbird Helix

All upper end units and quite costly.

If you are fishing most in soft water , get a fishfinder. Even if you fish mostly hardwater, you should still get a fishfinder, but you could get a flasher unit.

edit: But if u dont need/want upper end units there is a huge amount of units u can look at.

$500 is a good starting point but willing to pay up to $1000 all in. Now am i looking for an adapter kit for the ice fishing if i went say the helix route? I see what you're saying about getting 2 units just hard to justify the $. Thanks

I've had my eyes on the Helix 5 SI with ice transducer. Pretty powerful little unit.

Helix 5 ice is my recommendation. Marcum LX7 is a better flasher but loses big points on price and lack of gps.

Lowrance x67 ice fishing machine, look on ebay, shows you reel time with the fish finder screen and has built in flasher, you will be very happy with it, have been using mine for 9 years and could not be happier!. Take care

x2

I think the Hummingbird Helix line provides much more versatility and I have been successful with it on the hardwater.

I just picked up a Garmin striker 5dv from Cabela's the other day for 339.

Has GPS can make way points. Nice size screen. I have the standard transducer not the ice transducer but it's doing its job very well. In the summer it will go straight on the boat.

The mapping ability is only waypoints it doesn't have charts or visual maps at all unfortunately. But to step up to a hummingbird or lowrance I was looking at quite a bit more.

I've only had it out a few times but so far I like it

This is my first year with my Lawrance 4x CHIRP I use the split screen flasher and fish finder for under 500 bucks it is a great multipurpose unit. If you have a budget. It's a good choice.

I exchanged a faulty Ice55 for a Marcum LX6S from Cabelas. Only had it out once, but it worked flawlessly unlike the Ice55. So far so good.

Default Fishfinder/Flasher combo

Ice Helix 5 Sonar/GPS unit works great for me in the winter and I have a separate mount, power cord and transducer in the boat. I just move the display from one to the other. The units is very powerful, 4000 watts peak and is good for 1500 feet. Way more than I need. I am just starting to use the way points and GPS. Flasher is great, sonar works good for jigging has a timer, clock, battery status all built in. I don't think I will ever use all the capability the unit has. Lots of choices out there. Let us know what you pick. Dogfish

I just purchased the deeper sonar. Seen some fairly good reviews on it. Around $300 if you're on the budget.

If you haven't bought already, consider getting the Helix 5 or 7 G2 and adding an ice kit to it. Main advantage is that the G2's have autochart possible where as the G1's don't. That's a big advantage for summer fishing, and then you can use the maps you made for the ice season too.

I've been using a Garmin 547xs (w/chirp xducer)for 2 years, and have no complaints....... The preloaded lake vu isn't extremely accurate, but I mostly troll Ontario/Erie and it's not a drawback in that application.

I have my Helix 7 inch setup for ice as well. I have all the mapping, gps etc the same winter or summer too which I like. I made my own mount and have it in a back pack and looks as good as a factory setup for minor cost.
Just a tip for you no matter what brand or model remember if you get one with 4 or 5 inch screens and you want to run split screens they are very small. 7 inch costs more but especially in summer I am always splitting the screen it is much easier to see and follow contours etc.

I was looking at them. They now have a CHIRP model. But i chose the Helix 5 CHIRP GPS G2 instead. The deciding factor was battery time. I wish Deeper would make them so you can exchange batteries then you could get 2 batteries and run a whole day or longer.

I like the Helix cause I can use it in the winter and then in the summer transfer it to my tinner.

I also picked up the Garmin ice bundle 5dv. I haven’t used it yet but I’m excited to.
