Default Plucker for fowl

This is my 1st year hunting geese and the hunt was not bad considering a mixed level of hunters.

Long story short I like to pluck my birds and hate to waste any part of the meat. I am in Calgary and will be glad if someone lets me know where i can get service to pluck my birds.

If anyone would like to sell or know that I can get a used plucker in cheap rate that will be great as well.

I'm in the market for a chicken plucker myself.
There's a couple homemade ones on kijiji right now, otherwise they're 750 at peavey mart, or 500 at uncle wiener's.
I may bite the bullet and get the uncle wieners one.
I just know as soon as I do I'll be talking to someone who will say "I havent used mine in a generation. You could have had it for a six pack".

Anyone interested in this old one?

It bolts to a bench and needs a belt to hook up to a motor.

This fine beauty can be had for a dozen Canadian BUT you'll have to arrange a pick up in Morinville.

I bought one off amazon for a drill, it works really well. Took it to sask last fall and we did a few limits of ducks without much effort

Maybe not what you're looking for, but here's some advice that will help you do them a lot faster. Try to do 10 or so this way and see if you can get it down before you write off the idea of doing it yourself.

Rather than thinking about pulling out individual feathers, put a nitrile glove on and run your thumb down the bird in the same direction that the feathers lay. It will take both the top feathers and the pin feathers if you do it correctly. Works best if you let the birds get cold before you start (protects the skin from tearing).

I can do a mallard in about 2 minutes using this method. Then I cut the wings, feet, and neck with a heavy cleaver. By the time I have gutted them and rinsed them, the whole process probably takes 5 minutes.

Another way to do it is give ‘em a rough pluck then dip in simmering (not boiling) paraffin wax. Let the wax set then crack it and peel. You end up with perfect birds.
