I mentioned giant water bugs in an earlier post. Just to add...

Another tip is to keep an eye wash cup in your pack. A small thing but sure cna help if you get something in your eye.

The roots of the plant 'sweetflag' can be mixed with tobacco and the smoke inhaled. This smoke helps relieve toothaches and headaches. The smoke can help you feel more alert if you are tired, like a cup of coffee might. A poultice made with sweetflag root will draw sickness(boils, etc.) from under the skin.

Lots of good pictures of sweetflag on google.

Default Caught in a whiteout or blizzard survival

An Inuit survival trick that could save your life.
Dig a hole in the snow Just deep enough for your body to fit in a crouched position, try to cover the top of the hole but allow a small opening for air. Kneel on the tips of your toes and knees, that way if you fall asleep you will lose your balance and wake up saving you from freezing to death.

I've never tried it my self, I read it the Yellow knife news paper.

Always carry a knife. Always have at least 2 Bic lighters. You will be fine.
Fire is the most important thing in the bush, keeps you warm and gives comfort and you can start a small forest fire to get rescued.
