Default Looking for new spinning rod

Hello AO, I am in the market for a new spinning rod for the upcoming open water season. Let me first begin that I do not know all of the regs for Alberta fishing, and heck I'm not even sure of the opening date here in Sask. Please don't let that be a deterrent from helping me with my question. The 2 rods I am looking at are the Fenwick HMX and the St. Croix Triumph. Both in a 6'6" medium targeting mainly walleye with the chance of pike. Both rods are in the $115-$130 range.

I personally prefer the HMX. I own both rods, with the same reel on each, and always reach for the HMX over the Triumph. I usually bring it along as second rod or for friends to use. Expensive backup, but my HMX just feels better. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

I have the same Fenwick and love it. I do prefer St. Croix rods, but haven't used a Triumph.

St. Croix. If fishing out of a boat get the 6ft rods. If not get the 6' 6"

Get an extra fast action if for jigging.

Fenwick HMG. It is better then the HMX in every way and it is right in your price range at $120(HMX should only be $90). The HMG is one of the best value rods on the market, imo on par with or maybe even better then St. Croix's premier lineup.

I really like St. Croix's higher end rods like the avids, legend tournaments and legend elites but on the lower end rods you are mainly paying for the brand name imo.

Shimano baby, all the way. Too bad they dont sell the crucial anymore, that is my go-to rod. I've owned and used many rods and The Shimano Crucial, medium - extra fast is the best ever.

LOL. This is the “go fish frank lake” and “elk hunt on in saddle hills” of rod recommendations.
