Default Advice for Perch?

Looking for some tips on hooks or set ups for Perch in slave lake, I have never really tried fishing for perch and don't really have the experience to hone in on these, have all I need for walleye and jack but would like to focus on perch when I go in a week to slave, not looking to be told your own secrets but some info to improve my chances would muchly be appreciated! thanks.

slender spoons,pk spoons, little cleo in perch patter, small len thompsons in 5 of diamond or perch, really any bright yellow, green, pink or glowing. Perch are usually a fluke but there are some big ones up to 16",a friend had a camping spot there for 10 yrs and caught a few of these near little grassy but its closed now.

what size of hooks, #6 or #8 or smaller? From what ive seen on youtube white maggots? I have also seen that some will put a very small shiny spoon about 3 inches above the bait for a flasher, would this be beneficial to use as a weight to get the hook down or not needed?

I have my best luck fir the bigger oerch with a small five of diamonds. If you watch perch on a camera at times they will go after the spoon and not the hook holdinf the maggots. Thats when i will put two or three maggots on each hook on the treble.

thanks for tips! heading up to slave for 2 days starting the 13th for the first time this year, this will at least get me started, will need to buy some smaller hooks, I have only ever caught 2 perch by accident, haha! and want to solely focus on trying to fish perch while I am there after catching my limit of walleye. hopefully I will be successful and will post some pics!

Try a small jigging Rapala in a bright colour like chartreuse or green. Forget the bait on the jig and bang it down on the bottom a few times to draw them in for a look.

I am quite happy! next mission is to find something that the white fish will find appetizing! one of the fellows I went with had an underwater camera and many schools of large white fish swimming around but they had no interest in my perch hooks and bait so back too investigating what they like!

That's awesome, glad you found some perch!

Do you have any pics of the big pike? I am blown away by the amount of big pike I have seen out of Slave this year.

When we used to ice fish Shaws Point for walleye, we used smaller jigs with minnows and always caught perch. Not big numbers but not tiny ones either. Seen a couple perch footballs come out of Shaws point but that was a few years ago. One could have passed as a walleye it was so thick and big.

Never heard of anyone nailing the perch on slave, most are incidental catches walleye fishing. Also never seen a perch under 10" from slave, most are 12" plus humpys.

Use to do all right with perch that was a while ago though. Seems like you said though just the odd one and for the most part big ones.
