Default Bringing the pup out of country?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here have brought the puppy from out of Canada. We are looking for a pup and Because the breed isn’t as popular we can’t find a local breeder. Found a few in US and lots in Europe.
Are there any restrictions on bringing the pup to Canada? Any issues with the transportation? May be one airline is better than another?
Any info will be appreciated.

Lots of info if you search as been discussed except for out of north America. cant help there. puppy has to be 8 weeks old, vet letter dog is in good health no older then 72 hours. require purchase agreement or bill of sale. at the Canada US border, all they care about is collecting the GST if you drive the pup across. I have done both in shipping dogs here or picking up pup shipped to Great Falls montana. Airlines that seem to be seamless for myself has been
Continental. Once pup lands in Canada, you wait til pup delivered at termainal, they give you the paper work , then go to other building to pay the GST then go back showing paid and they had over the pup.

If shipped and picked up in the US both Continental and Delta have been great.

I would recommend your breeder crate train before the big shipment date to make life easier for pup. Look for flights that reduce the number of stops, direct is always better especially dealing with weather restrictions and the number of hours before you actually get to pick pup up

Lately I have preferred picking pup up in Great Falls, way more seamless and gives me an excuse to do a little shopping while there, typically for dog stuff or food

exciting times ahead, good luck!

We brought our dog back from Houston some years ago with us on the airplane. She was four months old. We didn't have any choice of airline because of our destination so I don't know how much their requirements vary. I believe the airline needed advance notice we would be bringing her into the cabin.

She needed a health certificate from a veterinarian and proof that she had all relevant immunizations for her age. She's a small breed so she fit in a soft case that went into the space under the seat in front of us. The vet gave us some kind of mild sedative drug to give her to help her cope with the experience.

Everything went well with the airline(s) and customs.

Hope this helps.

The only thing I will add to what has been said is that if you can afford it, traveling to the breeder to pick the pup allows you to bring it back as baggage which comes with only a nominal fee.

We have an English Cocker Spaniel. If you're not looking for a field spaniel, and you haven't chosen your breeder yet, I can put you in touch with mine. He's in Cochrane.

Here are a couple of pics.

If you are looking for an English Cocker Spaniel that is field bred get in touch with Abitt Like Home Kennels. They are in Parkland County and breed great field cockers.

If you are not going to hunt with the dog, then the one in the picture is absolutely gorgeous. A common breed like that you do not have to go far.

Nope, but she probably would have made a great hunting dog, she's very smart.

Thanks for the compliment! She earned her champion title just before we took her home. Now, she's just our dog

Yes I know about that place, but I’m not looking for a field bred dog. I’m looking for a family pet. There is a big difference between those two. The leads that I got from Deb are great, except the waiting list for the pup is like 70 people long, lol! The other one is 30 people long...
I spent last week searching with no results for what we want.

I just shipped a border collie to the US. From my experience, the only two options are to pick it up yourself or use a broker ($1200). All of the airlines we talked to will not ship a dog unless you go through a broker. You cannot take the dog as checked luggage, so it needs to be small enough to fit in a kennel that goes under your seat.

The rules for moving dogs across the Canada/US border have been relaxed recently. Customs didn’t look at the dog or any of the documents.

Absolutely! The house became cold and empty since we lost our boy in November. These little guys bring us so much happiness and positive emotions!
