Default .44 bullets?? 44 mag bullet choice?

Anyone know where I can buy in person, Hornady XTP 225gr 44 bullets? I may have to settle for another grain weight. I live in the Edmonton area, thanks for your time and thoughts.

If anyone wants to add info that they’re using for 44 mag carbines, that would be appreciated.

Thanks. I must have missed them at P and D. I’ve been in there quite regularly since the covid thing.

I’m looking at my hornady book and I may have to go with 240 grain. I see them in stock mostly every time. I’m going with H110 powder so I’ll see what I can work up.

H110 is good medicine for .44 (and .41 magnum)...I had very good results putting 21.9 gr of it behind a 210 gr XTP in the .41 magnum particularly. Haven't loaded any XTP for the .44 though.

I saw some at cabelas in calgary 5 days ago, 240 grain xtp works great, kid shot a 6'6 boar last week with his .44, broke both shoulders and turned the lungs to jelly.

That’s awesome! I try to buy my reloading stuff at P&D, I don’t like cabelas prices. But I did see 240’s at cabelas yesterday. Thanks for the experience, I’d like to take a deer with my 44 this fall.

I'm using 265gn Interlock's backed by H110. I've only had the fortune to take one WT with this load, but it poked a nice hole through the buck.

Believe I purchased them at P & D.

I've had limited success with the 225's in my 1894. Oddly my Ruger Super Blackhawk loves them.

The 240 xtp is my go to bullet for the rifle. It's a newer one with Ballard rifling. I use a healthy dose of H110.

I've never tried the 300g pills. I figure if I need more mash, the 1895 follows me out.

I put a cylinder of these through my S&W 629 today, 6" barrel. They are 305 gr hard cast bullets, not sure what powder they use but it's not a slow burner (H110 or similar I would guess)....and they certainly get attention at an indoor range. Box says 1260 fps, I'm sure that varies a good bit with barrel length.....but Golly....

I'm pretty sure they would work well.

Thanks for the feed back. Last night I de primed 100 brass to start this new transition. I picked up 200 240 gr XTP bullets, it states max velocity around 1500, I’m thinking I may be getting around 1600-1700. See how they hold up with the 16” barrel of my carbine.

How does everyone go about crimping them, first time I’ll be crimping rounds, kinda the only thing I’m worried about.

I bought a set of used dies, 3 piece RCBS carbide dies and buddy had two lee 44 dies in there as well. Isn’t the 3rd die from the RCBS pack for crimping? Its just like anything though, I’ll take my time and wrap my head around. Just never done it before.

You can use the RCBS die. I just find the Lee collet crimp die much easier to use and more consistent. I use them for all my levers and semi's

I use an rcbs carbide set for normal projectiles and I have a hornady set for their leverrution. The rcbs set crimped mine fine.

Thanks everyone, I’ll take it slow and see what I can come up with as a result with my set up.
