I suppose that could play a role. Sure helps to have animals around.

I must be missing your point. Or is there one?

I would have to say the majority of the animals I've taken are under 250 yards. Sometimes shooting deer a guy might reach out. Most of the elk I've shot have been in the 400+ yardage range except for one at about 20 paces. 2 moose around the 350 mark but most other ones were under 100. Don't recall ever having to hunt extremely hard. It must come naturally to me i guess.

Please tell me your next set has you walking on water. Cause it'll take a miracle to make you look like anything but a twit after all this.

Let me put it into prospective for you. On one such trip we had a wreck. It took us literally 12 hours, with the aid of horses and a vehicle, to get to a hospital.

1874 50-90 black-power .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Dixon
2017 Canadian sniper ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longes...d_sniper_kills
with the Rifle's & cartridges/scopes/range finders/etc of today
hunting distances have expanded
long distance shooting schools/ranges have increased
internet helps long distance shooter's have access to latest equipment/info
belonging to clubs ... forums ... ranges have shortened learning curve

Hunting is done in many forms .. Long Range is just one

Furthest I ever shot a deer was 330 m and that was after a lot of shooting in the summer before hunting season. Not sure if I would take that shot now. The vast majority for me is less than 100 m

With 1382 viewers and 55 individuals selecting one or more of the poll options we can likely come to an interpretation of some type regarding LR Hunting. What's your take ?

Here is the real kicker on this type of thread and the results, we used to sit around and bs how good we are etc and then one fella says turkey shoot...pay 5 bucks and shoot rested closest to the bullseye wins a turkey, 5 shooters on the range at a time 100 yards...well I tell ya the outcome was funny and the excuses piled up real quick...good times, had a 4 powered scope on top of the ol'marlin 30/30 took home a few turkeys that afternoon and some turkeys just went home

That 1330 people should keep their opinions about it to themselves.

For sure. We have to assume that most of us fall in that category. As the poll was a LR thing, I had to choose a distance that would be considered long range by most and go up from there. Defining actual LR shooting distances would be impossible.

Tell me why you think it’s OK for someone who has not done something successfuly. Or applied themselves so that they can be successful has any right to give advise or criticize someone who has? I know it is all the rage, but you need to stop. It’s wearing thin.

First of all, tell me where the advice or criticism is coming from on this thread. Your status as a bona fide LR shooter really wasn't a consideration...sorry.

I’m not stupid and have been privy to your ankle biting long enough. I’m tired of it. Really tired of it. Tell me salavee, what was your purpose here?

I was referring to an interpretation of the poll .. nothing at all to do with an opinion on the discipline of LR hunting. Poll results can be interpreted in different ways.
It appears that only a very small percentage of hunters participate in LR hunting practices. Those that responded indicated they have been successful on at least two occasions which, in my opinion, indicated they were well prepared to do so. Others may see it differently.
