Yep, the first gen CI4 does have some flex for sure.

I certainly didn't mean to come off as a know it all in either of my last two responses, but when I see incorrect information posted, I try to correct it with facts as best I can. They certainly aren't "internet facts", they're actual manufacturer's specifications and comments based on my observations/experience with using the new CI4s for a few years now.

im biased and probably going to get pooped on but I would throw a vote in for Quantum Vapor or Smoke S3 reels. I used them both this tourney season and have zero complaints. both are a uni body design so they feel very solid yet are still light. both have salt guard protection. Titanium bail wires so they wont ever get out of sync. Plus a three year warranty. 200$ for Vapor and
230$ for smoke.

For a reel that will truly last you 15 years, find a Mitchell 300 on ebay or amazon. No one has ever improved on it anyhow.
Ive got a Mitchell built in 1965 still going strong. Problem is the foot doest fit in the reel seat of a lot of newer rods. And no way im taking a Dremel to modify the foot and ruining the originality of the old reel.

Seriously considering buying my wife a Stradic C14, how well would it match to a Loomis E6X?

I have a Stradic c14, quantum smoke, Sedona ( not impressed) and the Pflueger supreme. My pick is the Pflueger as it’s every bit as good as the Stradic and half the cost. Actually I think I like it better.

Best spinner on the market is the Daiwa BG series and they range in price
from 90 bucks a up depending on size. Check out www.alanhawk.com for excellent spinner reviews and technical info.

Used Mitchell 300 Pro combo for rainbow/bull trout on Kootenay Lake. The reel died after two weeks, will never buy Mitchell again.

Pretty sure that sns2 meant the Mitchell/Garcia reel as i was mentioning in post 33. They came out with it in i think about 1948. I think its fairly safe to say no reel made to day will outlast the old mitchell 300's. They have whole forums devoted just to them and 1000's still going strong like mine at 50/60 years old. Mines only had a few bail springs ever. Still used often to. Its brought in 15-20 pounders over time. Tough old reel!

Well none of the Shimano's have gone on sale. Have been reading and the Diawa BG gets pretty good reviews at under 150.00. Any thoughts on it?

Default Shimano

I have had excellent luck with all Shimano reels. The Spirex rear drag models work well and are very reliable.
