RIP Kenny Ploen
Clinton High School four-sport star and Winnipeg Blue Bombers legend Kenny Ploen died Tuesday, Feb. 13, at age 88. In 11 years (1957-67) on the Canadian Football League team he led it to four Grey Cup championships. He arrived in Winnipeg in 1957, not long after guiding the University of Iowa to win in the Rose Bowl and being named the MVP. He was a two-way star at quarterback and defensive back.
“Ken Ploen was the face of the Blue Bombers for years and then became a part of the fabric of this community following his playing days,” said Winnipeg Football Club President and CEO Wade Miller in a statement issued Tuesday. “He was a four-time Grey Cup champion as a player and a great ambassador for our franchise and our city.
