Buying a non-restricted rifle questions
Hi there. Just a question for those who buy and sell non restricted rifles. If a guy has a valid Pal and is purchasing a non-restricted firearm , from what I understand the seller does not need to show one. Is that correct? Second, is there a registry where a purchaser can run the serial number before a transaction to ensure the firearm is not stolen, etc?
Thanks in advance.
Kidd.

If you want, you can ask your local cops to run a serial number on CPIC...tell them your story. They might. No real reason not to.
You are acquiring the firearm, so you should show your license to the seller.

You can run it yourself on CPIC ( I find the site is down about 50% of the time so be patient)
http://app.cpic-cipc.ca/English/search.cfm
There is no legal requirement for the seller to show the buyer their PAL. However the seller must have the PAL on them if they are in possession of the firearm. There is nothing stopping you the seller to ask to see if the PAL of the buyer. If they wont produce one I would walk away from the deal if I did not know that person.

I buy (1) new from the store (2) used in person only if I know the person or (3) on here and only if they have a fairly high decent trader rating.
I have never ran the serial # yet as I follow the 3 rules above.

I just ask to see the PAL anytime I'm selling a firearm and make it clear to the potential buyer NO PAL = NO Deal
Just need to see it, I don't take a picture, or record the number, just have a quick look ...
if the guy says "he is not required to show it" then I tell him "I'm not required to sell it to you either"
last thing you want to do is sell a firearm to an unlicensed person - if that somehow came back to you ..... nothing good could happen here
(non restricted of course)

I second this, especially if you're selling on a reputable site (this one, CGN, etc.) users who have to put the effort in even to see what's for sale are generally a little more safe to deal with and understand buying and selling.
