Goldeye Lake-Bait or Fly?

Heading to Goldeye Conference Centre in 2 weeks for a 3 day conference.
Which rod should I take?

without a boat you'll have to chuck it out quite a ways, try the dock and get it out past the drop off. if you got a boat you'll have no problem with either set up.

I have use of the canoes

Full sink line with a green Carey Special, full back nymph, or a burgundy/black leech pattern. Flip it out and paddle around. Good shelf on the west side of lake.
Have a floating line just in case.
Backswimmer patterns might work as well

I assume your fishing for goldeye, I used to slay them with little Len Thompsons, red devil, black devil, Five o diamonds, orange with black dots, they all worked, so did the fly rod. Bumble bee, black nymph, and royal coachmen all worked great too.

Lol, well... I'd still use almost the same tackle, maybe add a rig and rainbow color power bait.

Definitely bring the fly rod. I took a picture from last month with the lake in the background and there are about 50 ripples from rising fishing in the background. There were 2 large resident bows that live under the dock on the right side of the lake when you park in the main lot (not the main dock). My buddy managed to hook one but it snapped the leader. Dry's, small mini wooly buggers worked very effectively. you need to be able to roll cast just over the ledge to constantly get hits if you're fishing from shore. If you have a small boat you'll slay it out there. gluck, it's gorgeous out on that lake.

oh there are also 2 small ponds just off the FTR that is 3 mins from Goldeye lake that hold decent rainbows, easy to fly those ponds from shore as well.

First time at this lake and so I appreciate the info
Will be free to fish on the Friday 4-6pm
Saturday first light til 9am
Sat aft 4-6pm and Sunday am-first light til 10am
Otherwise in meetings.
I want to do a Truite au Bleu for a demo

unless the fish are rising I'd use a sinking line and brown/orange wooly worm...

I've fished Goldeye a hundred times over the years, caught some of the largest rainbows ever. Sinking line with a large light green nymph just right of the parking lot

I have barely opened my fly box since 1985.
It will be a trip down memory lane to see what I used to fish with back in the day.
But IIRC I will find some Doc Sprately's and 52 Buicks

You have me seriously thinking about Goldeye now. I may have to do the Goldeye/Fairfax cast-n-blast loop this weekend.
