When I'm backpacking in the mountains up to a week, I don't chance getting sick. I have a lightweight hand pump/filtration system and also a collapsible water jug with a tap. Always have clean water on hand without making lots of trips to the water source. Also some twine/lightweight rope and 3 or 4 bearbells around our sleeping area for larger animals warning at night!!

Very good point to bring up about Trophy sheep in Alberta, thanks. I wonder if they require you leave the eye in just for determining degree of curl on those nip and tuck rams or if there is another reason for it?

That's is the why, but you still need to leave them in for the big old rams too.
Even if they are way past the eye...
