Remington 700 question
Does anyone out there know what a 1975 Remington model 700 ADL barrel is made from. I think it is chrome moly but does anyone know for sure???
Thanks

Some were stainless steel. But it will say so on the barrel if it is.

The ADL was the original version of the SPS, as in Remington's "Economical' line of the 700. It had a matt black finish in the era where high gloss blue was the norm, no hinged floor plate with a blind mag. It originally came out with a walnut stock and a synthetic or laminate stock was added later. If yours has a stainless barrel it was added afterwards. All the factory barrels were Chrome Moly in all cartridges.

That is very interesting. Have seen Stainless on the BDL and CDL, I even have a LH BDL in 7 RUM that has a stainless RUM action and stainless barrel but never knew there were stainless barrels on any of the ADLs. Learn something new every day.

The ADL’s did come polished blued and many came with blackened Stainless Steel barrels. My father hunted with such a rifle for almost 40 years.

I have seen Remington 700 ADL rifles with factory markings and stamped "Stainless Steel", these barrels were finished in a blueing process of some sort. They were in 264 and 300 Winchester mag, I have not yet encountered any standard calibers with stainless barrels in the early ADL's.

I don’t see any markings indicating it is Stainless steel so I will assume it is chrome moly. It is a polished blued barrel… not matte.
Thank you all for the responses

Most stainless alloys used in firearms are magnetic.
