Default Blackfoot Cooking Lake Self Registration Discharge Permits

I just checked the Alberta Parks website for the orientation dates for Blackfoot Rec Area and it now allows you to self register for a discharge permit online. I had my permit emailed to be as soon as I completed the online form. Its nice to not have to drive to Miquelon Park every year. Hopefully this will be a full time change and not just due to Covid this year.

Also I see it now lists the use of trail cameras is prohibited in the park. Last time I took the orientation you could still use cameras but at your own risk.

Thank you for sharing this!
The last couple years I’ve been unable to make any of their orientation times. Want to get the kids in there for some grouse

Hopefully the online discharge permit is a permanent change. It's been difficult in the past to connect with the staff to get your discharge permit.....

Every year has been better than before. Not necessarily in harvest, but enjoyment.

I wonder why trail cameras are now prohibited and if Alberta parks will share the trail cam data from all their camera studies they do in there if you can't collect your own.

Only things I can think of is there were likely many thefts or vandalism and the staff got tired of dealing with the complaints. Perhaps they were somehow interfering with the studies or the cams used by wardens out there.

That was fast, and thankfully I didn’t have to list what firearms I would be using.

Too bad about the trail cameras

I called 403-627-1165 ( the number at the bottom of the permit) and asked, they are hopefully going to have someone call me. Please, feel free to do the same.

I did mine online after reading this post, couldn't never line up the right time to go to one of the meetings in the past years because of work. Glad it's online now. I filled it out and sent it on Sunday. Didn't get nothing on Monday hopeing it gets sent to me today (tuesday)

If people can’t pack, they shouldn’t be in there. Seen people wheezing to get past the 400 m no shooting line...I was often wondering “what are you gonna do if you DO shoot one, fork and fire till the spring??”

One guy told me (between puffs on his smoke) that he “Went for a long walk” - his loop was 2.5 km on main trails, couldn’t figure out why he didn’t get his moose so many people have no idea what they are up against in there.

Wish they would put the whitetails on draw (never happening, I know) and limit the bird seasons to non-big game times. Too many bubbas wandering around because it’s close to the city. Probably gonna be worse this year
