Default Camping Castle Provincial Park WMU 400/402

Can anyone point me in the direction where you can camp down in the Castle Provincial Park or Wilderness Area. I am looking for a spot I can haul my trailer down to and base out of for a week in the last half of October. As of October 15 all the camp grounds are closed and there is no random camping allowed. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Stay out of 400 then. 402 is wide open for your trailer.

Sounds like the folks at the ski hill are are the only people that can can use this area year round now? Do they have the man power to enforce it.

Random camping is open all year long in designated area's. Some of those area's are behind gates closed mid December others inaccessible by snow depths later in the year. Only the campgrounds themselves are closed Oct 15.

https://www.albertaparks.ca/media/64...r-brochure.pdf It says that winter camping is permitted in ares 3-9 in Castle Provincial Park. Not sure if those are noted on this map, you may have to reference the summer map. Also, you don't need a discharge permit if you're hunting in the Wildland area of the Provincial Park.

Have a permit anyways. I know 2 fellows that were raked over the coals 2 yrs ago by Alberta Parks for their discharge permit. These guys tried to correct the parks guys but they were having none of it. So to save some grief they showed them the permit

Some of the Castle Wildland Area you may need a firearms discharge permit, at least in 2018.

Not needed in the wilderness area's but you need a discharge permit to travel through the Castle Park to reach the wilderness area. Permit Conditions in item 15, If hunting exclusively in Castle Wildland Provincial Park, a firearm discharge permit is not required. However, a person in or traveling through Castle Provincial Park with a non-encased/non-dissembled firearms must hold a valid permit to discharge a firearm for Castle Provincial Park.

dicknormal, did you look at the map? The trails south of Castle Mountain Resort, the ones marked in red, are in the Castle Wildland and according to the 2018 map you need a firearms discharge permit there. When you get your permit for this year this map is mentioned twice in point 12 of the permit.

They make some people feel better and sleep at night for some reason. The same people that feel the carbon tax will soon fill the hole in the ozone and that soon will be well in the world.

At least this year with the permit they made it valid to last more than 30 days at a time and had new ones ready for opening day of season. Unlike last year

I don’t care how many days they have them for or when they are ready etc., it’s just another bull$h1t loophole for hunters to jump through. Not arguing with you just sick of this stupid nonsense. Pretty soon you will need a permit to hold your dick when you pee...

Pretty sure you can back country camp in the castle wild land park. Does anybody know if there is any sites along the #11 North Lost creek atv trail that one could set up a wall tent?

You aren’t allowed to “dress, store or hang game” within the provincial parks either. Not sure how one goes about legally having a hunting camp down there now

https://www.albertaparks.ca/media/64...rge_permit.pdf

Looks like this (Dated July 2018) ^^^^^ has been replaced by an amendment in Sept 2018

https://www.albertaparks.ca/media/64...tear-sheet.pdf

No more OHV and no more discharge permits required within the Wildland Park

***From discharge permit app - If hunting exclusively in Castle Wildland Provincial Park, a firearm discharge permit is not required. However, a person in or traveling through Castle Provincial Park with a non-encased/non-dissembled firearms must hold a valid permit to discharge a firearm for Castle Provincial Park.

Drive it into cowley to back country butchers. Problem solved, and you can get some tasty pepperoni made there.

Has anybody gone into the castle wild lands and set up a wall tent or is everyone just doing day trips in?

Most of the spots in there you are going to be hoofing out elk quarters for 2 days. Having to then make multiple trips into town to drop off a quarter at a time isn't really an option in my mind.

I guess making it harder to hunt and use the area seems like it was the goal anyway, mission accomplished.
