Garden never stops. We’ve got a few tomato plants, chillies and half a doz pineapples that go year round. Aside from that, this being the winter crop I’ve got some onions, cucumbers, capsicum, potatoes and coriander planted. It might be to warm for the potatoes but I thought I would try a couple and see how they go.

Yep it's important to replace what you remove.
Otherwise you end up depleting your soil.
The soil is alive, and it helps to feed it.
I use alfalfa, leaves, wood chips, grass clippings, straw and compost.

So far I’ve done fertilizer and peat moss with some manure

Hard to believe that the little Saskatoon Berry Trees I collected last year in Saskatoon:
Then smuggled home on the plane:
Are actually flowering in their second year of life:
Guess they happen to like it here...

Not a bad idea, although I do have a great Saskatoon patch that I use every year I wouldn't mind having a few bushes in the yard. Also planted a couple of Haskap Berry plants last year. Hope they take.

Well, after a decent start, the wind, rain and downright cold temperatures have stalled it all out some.
Interesting contrast:
This picture was taken on today's date last year:
Note the Pink Snow from the neighbor's massive fruit tree on the ground, our cherry tree (left) already done flowering and leafed out, and the red maple well leafed out back then.
Contrast to today:
The neighbor's big tree has yet to even flower, our cherry tree just now starting, and the maple waaay behind last season.
Hope the weather turns around soon!!
Cheers,
Nog

I pruned mine hard this year and had a ton of flowers. Now a ton of berries. However… looks like mummy berry problems again.
I just sprinkled the plants with some powered sulphur to try and kill the fungus.
Arggg.

Had a little red radish last eve that brought tears to my eyes as it was so hot. Got the best strawberries we have ever had. Now I gotta spend a couple days picking little weeds in all the rows. Kinda/sorta wish I could train chickens to pick weeds.

These white ones are much bigger and have the same kick, but a little different flavor.

Peas, kohlrabi, carrots and potatoes planted April 30 doing great. Rest are coming.
The alfalfa pellet dissolved in the soil and I noticed it’s a little goopy. The number of worms in the garden has shot through the roof.

Well done sir.
Our strawberries are producing better than they ever have here. Not sure why but I ain't gonna complain at an ice cream pail every second evening. The fun part is her patch has probably 10 different kinds and they are all producing.

if you have friends with rabbits, rabbit raisins in the garden will triple the size of your worms and make your plants happy too

Hail storm did some damage today. Maybe 5% damage. A few plants totally destroyed. Bigger ones better off.

Did a pile of work to the garden this year.
I took the fence down (protects for Deer) & tilled each row one time. Then put wood ash , Rabbit doo and compost on each row. Tilled in 3-4 times.
Straw between rows helps keep the weeds down & we can get in the garden after a rain or after watering.
Looking east, 4 rows of two types Corn, Onions, Peas behind the Peas are a row of Green Beans, a row of Yellow Beans, Asparagus (done for the season). Wife has big Flowers behing that.
Looking west. Corn again, Potatoes white and yellow. Lower part is (old) Peat Moss & topped with compost. We plant like this so we get clean big Potatoes.
We have two Tomatoes , Almonds, Black Currats & a short row of Bunching Onions. Strawberries & another row of Flowers.
The big Spruce by the Garden was here when we moved here. I planted all the rest.

Straw not hay. Hay could potentially be loaded with seeds if there is grass in the hay. Straight alfalfa hay your golden.
