Default 6.5 c.m vs 6.5 c.m prc recoil

Just curious if anyone has shot a 6.5 creedmoor prc and how the recoil is? I have a 7mm rem mag with a muzzle break 26” barerel shooting 162 grain eld-x using a Zeiss conquest 4-12 scope and I just can’t quite get the groups tight I don’t know what it is? I’m just thinking human error with recoil? I have a sheep hunt in Alaska in 2019 and want to be confident shooting tight groups. Any advise would be awesome thanks.

6.5 creedmoor prc (precision rifle cartridge) made by Hornady gets about 250fps faster out of the muzzle.

Oh I see! Thank you. Just for a comparison, I mostly run a 6.5X55 with 143g ELD-X. Rifle is 8.5 lbs with scope. I load for accuracy at 2700fps, which my skinny twig 11 year old daughter chooses over the 7.5 lb 243. She recently managed a one hole group at 100yds. I have loaded for speed up over 2900 but the recoil is more noticable. I wish I went with the 6.5 20 years ago Versatile.

I think it’s just 6.5 prc not 6.5 Creedmoor prc. I have 6.5-284 which is very comparable in ballistics and would assume recoil would be close to the 6.5 prc. It’s no where near a 7mm mag.

I run the 6.5saum which is basically the PRC. Recoil is very manageable. Barrel life should be upwards of 3000+ they hammer think mini rum. I read that you are running 162gr in your 7mm did you make sure your twist rate was sufficent for them? My 7mm needed to push it way faster then store bought to use 162's

143 gr eld-x in both running a quick calculator scenario in 8.5 lb rifle gives about 12 ft/lbs recoil energy for creedmoor and 16 ft/lbs for prc.(2700 fps vs 2900 fps)

There is no creedmoor prc....it’s two cartridges,

6.5 Creedmoor (standard cartridge)
6.5 PRC (short magnum)

Add 200-ish fps over the creedmoor and that’s what the prc does, prc is very new 2018 released cartridge.

My nephew is rebarreling a browning mountain TI to 6.5 PRC. It should be a helluva mountain gun

The PRC is designed to fix what’s “wrong” with all the other 6.5s. Similar to what the 7LRM does at 7mm, high BC bullets around 2900-3000 in a well designed case...but with better factory support.

6.5 Creedmoor: too slow
6.5x284: rebated rim
6.5x55: old actions limiting what ammo can be loaded
260 rem: short neck
6.5x47: no factory ammo

It will serve just fine as a hunting cartridge however the velocity gain (vs the creedmoor, at the same barrel length) must be compared against the weight penalty of a magnum action.
