Default Hunting season 2010

Just wondering what your goals for 2010 may be? After a new species, a trip to a far off place?

For myself, im concentrating on getting my first Mulie and Antelope. If time allows, My first Elk. After thats all done, I must atone for my sins and hunt more geese. I only got out on one shoot this past season, how sad, so very very sad.

My first ram, it'll be lucky year thirteen chasing them, this should be the year!

Also my first traditional archery kills, goal is to get a bear and a moose with my longbow.

First season of bow hunting, hopefully first moose, mule deer and possibly elk if there is time. Then of to a undecided location with dear old dad and younger brother (older one wants to go but doubt he'll show up) to have a go at some whitetails. Sould be a fun year.

Same old, same old - opening day for ruffed grouse up here, then down south for geese and ducks, and archery deer, with the scattered deer hunt for rifle!
Pheasants when I can get south for them.....

I have a P-9 and Im just itchin to meet a slammer old bull elk. All 14 of my priorities are high enough to pull a tag with exception of Trophy Antelope and 410 Sheep. Gotta stay focused on the super tags while some of the zones are still capable of producing what I am looking for.

wow pack i wish i was smart like and you and strategically saved my priorities over the years. im way up on the antelope but everything else is like a 4 so i got awhile to go before i can pull some great tags. especially now that im so into bow hunting and i never ever even though about putting in for 410 down there. oh well my son is going to have some great hunts when he reaches 20-25 years old.

I'm hoping to draw 410 sheep and I will hunt that for 10-12 days straight I'm hoping at the end of November.

I may also draw Archery Antelope if a friend or two want to draw it with me down south here. Combo that with a good mule deer bowhunt sometime in September.

My wife may draw a late season elk tag as well, hoping to find her a big bull sometime soon!

Other than that, I'll be helping a few guys with some big tags (hopefully) and will be looking at going to Wyoming, up north for whitetails, etc, etc....lots of options!!

I'm hoping the huntings gods will help me get my first elk. First I will try with the bow and then rifle season.

It will be a long, fun winter of reading and practicing. It is also my goal to do some pre-season scouting this year outside of the hunting season. The kids are finally getting big enough that the wife may let me out for more days in the field next season.

Going on my first week long wall tent Bull moose hunt in Northern Alberta. Hell, I'm just happy to spend some time in a wall tent with a wood stove. Also hoping to do my first non-trophy sheep hunt. I've heard the meat from a ewe sheep can't be beat!

Do more field hunting for waterfowl. Get myself a layout blind and some more field dekes and hunt dry more often.

I think I will finally not 999 my 410 sheep and chase them around the mountain for a couple of weeks in November. Spring bear is already in the planning stages, as soon as the ice is off the river, I'll be running bait and barrels with the jetboat. Should be getting drawn for bull moose as well, sure would like to stick one with an arrow. Hopefully, I can find a few elk along the river this fall as well.

Another moose with the bow.
When I started bowhunting I got frustrated with all those deer jumping the string on me. Then it occurred to me, either I had to get a whole lot better, get a faster bow or I could hunt something with a huge kill zone. LOL

I did get better, I did get a much faster bow, but I will always remember the excitement of calling a moose to twenty yards and then the panic when I sunk the arrow into that moose quartered towards me and he blasted straight at me. I jumped back tripped and could have slapped his legs as he ran past me. Lied there a long time catching my breath and laughing my ass off. Where did I expect that he would go when I sunk that arrow into him, Forward is a good guess in hindsight.

So,while many look forward to new experiences in 2010. I would like to go back to that newbie who did not have a clue what he was getting into on that warm September night with black flies swarming my sweat as I searched the willows for where he had fallen.

Then the realization that I was alone, almost dark and a whole lot of work in front of me before I could get home for some sleep before work in the morning.

Ditto. Me too. exactly those things. I've got permission for good places nearby, just need more and better gear... always more gear

As for big game, just want more meat. Not fussy about what it is. But I'm slowly getting better, getting more chances. Would be nice to actually use all three whitetail tags.

Default 2010

Hopefully I will get drawn again for early moose, I hit the rut perfectly this year and got to call moose for three days, learned alot and heard some calls made by the cows that were with mr big that I never heard before. Called out a 3 yr old and a 45 plus bull. Mr big was held up behind the tightest crap bush at 80 yrds and wouldnt commit to another couple steps and the young bull came out 150 yrds down a pipeline with a cow always in front of him. Didnt matter, hard to shoot a little one when mr big came to play every night. 2010 will see me out for a week in my walltent at our moose camp, all I need is some luck with the draw. Hopefully the deer pop gets a boost cause the numbers have been down lots for two seasons now, not what we were used to. Maybe cash in my bull elk draw for the blackfoot reserve.

Default A sheep Year

Spring black bear for sure. Then gunna put a sheep camp in mid Aug. till mid Sept. as im gunna start guiding a few resident hunters and then be back in for sheep the end of October unless I book some more residents plus I need to fit some time in and get the wife a ram this year. In the mean time ill probably try and do an Archery elk hunt if I get time. Then in November its time to kill some whitetails. Would like to get drawn for 420 or 422 moose but still a couple years away. My Bull Elk in 300 is a couple years away also. Will be a sheep hunting year this year, cant wait.

Default 2010 season

Archery mule deer, trophy antelope?( priority 7),first rifle hunt at camp wainwright( priority 5), bull moose for my wife, but first a spring bear hunt. I am hoping to get the one that crawled into the window of my camper last spring. He makes regular appearances on my trailcam in camp but we have not "crossed paths" yet.

My goals for this year? A successful goose hunt. My first hunt with a bow. First Moose and/or Elk. Some more deer is good, too!
