Default Relocating electrical meter

We just bought a house and the power meter is right in the middle of the house where I want to eventually build a deck. Did you guys ever deal with something like that?

Does Epcore have to move it or can you hire an electrician?
Any idea about a price?

Thanks for help, Andy

Gotta get Epcore to disconnect the service and an electrician to move it. Probly gonna need a permit.

Doubt it will be cheap either.

Sounds expensive. Can't see them allowing a splice in the incoming service. Would have to trench in a new line. Hope I am wrong

Electrician will arrange with EPCOR for the disconnect and reconnect. Easiest to move the meter towards the front of the house more so the underground is long enough without resplicing a new piece on.

Well for sure they won't splice, you would have to change the main wires that come into the mast and go down into your electrical box.

I had the power meter right on the front of my house which I didn’t like , got it moved around the corner . It cost me 600$ , the city came and disconnected the power, the electrician went to city hall and got the permit, after the electrician was done they called city electric department and hooked the power back up and extended the power line as well.

All this depends too on where your breaker panel is.
We still have the overhead lines so it was an easy fix.

This is in Red Deer.
Just get a few quotes and go from there.

just to give a rough price, it cost me $2500 to upgrade my panel to 100 amp service this summer. This involved a new panel, permits, 1 day for electrician, and arranging ATCO to disconnect and reconnect my service.

Not that it's my business, but why would the meter be such a big deal on the deck? Gonna be costly.

As others have said. Epcor will be required for connect disconnect. Electrician will do the work moving it. Cost will vary greatly.

You are dealing with a couple things. The power line from pole to meter. And meter to panel. Will need to be able to get power from new meter location to panel. I could keep going for a while but don’t want to bore everyone.

A big question is overhead power or underground power.

I think he means it’s in a spot where he wants to build a deck. (It’s in the way)

You moving towards the direction the service come onto property or away? If your going towards they probably don't have to replce the feeders, just shorten them. If away then yeh. Overhead or underground? If it were me I would try and work around it, but either way will be pricey.
