Default Favorite coffe home brew?

I gave up coffee in September of 2006. But yesterday my wife had one and I just couldn’t resist. I gave it up as a test and tried it a few years ago and got a headache that was pretty close to a migraine so I didn’t try again until yesterday.

We don’t have a traditional coffeemaker, we have a Keurig 2.0 but I bought a reusable pod so we can use our own grounds. So far we have tried the Starbucks Blonde and Holiday blend. I prefer the Holiday. If they’re still on sale when we go back to the store, I’ll pick up more.

What are your favorite blends? I do prefer the medium roast over the dark.

Starbucks French Roast or Kirkland Espresso. We use the reusable pods in the Keurig as well. Then I add a shot of Espresso. We have a Cuisinart espresso maker.

Black Rifle Coffee, tastes great and helps support vets seeing as our federal government is too broke.

I really like Phil and Sebastian offerings.

I prefer Santo Domingo from the Dominican Republic. Very strong, bold coffee that's smooth and not at all bitter.

I know they support the US vets as it’s an American company. Do they support the Canadian troops as well?

We buy Blue Mountain Coffee. Yes, it's pricey, but once you taste it, it really has a unique bold but smooth coffee flavour, no bitterness and chocolatey richness.

In all cases we grind our own beans.

We have a Technivorm machine (common drip type) as well as a Breville (grinder/espresso/steam combo) machine (which makes espressos, lattes or americanos) and it's great whichever way you like your coffee.

Besides good beans , good coffee is about temperate control and a good machine make a huge difference.

I don’t think the wife would go for more appliances, including another coffee machine. We had a Tassimo as well but like more flavors in the Keurig. Getting a grinder and a true coffee pot will be a no go. For now at least.

My wife is the coffee nut in the house. We usually buy Kicking Horse when we find it on sale or the Ethical Bean from Costco. I've also found the Save-on foods in house brand pretty good. I like a good cup of coffee, but if push comes to shove I will drink a foam cup full out of a rural gas station.

Kicking Horse - Mexican, Pacific Pipeline & Three Sisters blends are all go to's.

If I were to step out and grab a cup, Rosso or Analog (fratello).

We ditched the machines, and drip all our coffee now with Hario. Very simple, just watch the temperature as EZM said. Too hot and even a smooth blend becomes bitter.

We have Hario's all over the place. Cheap, simple, and no pods to deal with - just so happens that they make a very fine cup of coffee.

Recently tried another brand and can't wait to finish off

For commercially available (on the shelf at pretty much any decent grocery):
Nabob Bold - Midnight Eclipse
Nabob - Espresso (very fine grind)

For specialty stuff, mostly whole bean:
Arrowhead Coffee Co - Original French Roast
Arrowhead Coffee Co - Cleared Hot Espresso Blend

I have tried a couple from Black Rifle, while they were good I still prefer Arrowhead. ACC is veteran o/o and gives part of their proceeds to veterans groups.

Edit: I have a Bodum Bistro burr grinder and either use a drip machine or Aeropress to make the elixer.

We run Kirkland espresso almost exclusively. We go through a lot of coffee.

Our coffee machine is a Saeco Minuto super-automatic and we’ve tried almost everything for beans.

Right now I'm on Kicking Horse Cliffhanger Espresso. Bash the beans in a mortar and pestle so it's definitely not a fine grind lol but it tastes alright. I've tried most of the grocery store beans listed in this thread and I can't say I dislike any of em. Sure beats that swill they sell at Tim's

I'm also on the Kicking Horse and have been for some time now. Three Sisters and Smart Ass are definite favorites.

This is the favourite at our house. Have yet to try in pod machine, but incredible from a French press. Do not buy at co-op as it is twice what it costs at superstore or safeway.

Folgers classic roast,
add in a touch of international delight
southern butter pecan
its all we have had in the house for 10 yrs now
what I have found is most places make their coffee way to strong
for me
strong coffee of any make or brand gives me cramps in my guts
I cant stand timmies coffee at all

Melitta medium roast is what I liked best when I would make coffee at home, it’s been years though as I typically drink tea.

I guess good coffee is in the eyes of the beholder. I used to prefer Tim's until my palate matured .... lol. If I do drive through coffee it has to be Starbucks. I am much more dignified now as I have evolved ...lol. I may have become a coffee snob.

I used to find no discernible difference between pre-ground and grinding your own. I think for freshness, along with water temperature, these may be just as important as the coffee beans you buy.

You can buy the very best beans, but if they are pre-ground, and you are using a drip machine which brews at a temperature equivalent and proportionate to the water you put into it - you are not getting the best results. If your maker doesn't control water temp, you are also missing the bus.

At the end of the day, you drink coffee everyday. I look at buying the best stuff I will use I can afford - like a good BBQ (as we BBQ a few time a week) but, unfortunately most people may not look at coffee grinders or machines in the same light.

Breville and/or Technivorm - worth the money.

https://www.amazon.ca/Breville-BES87...words=breville

https://kitchenvirtue.com/products/t...thermal-carafe

I bet if you brought over your favorite brand of whole beans over to my place and we ground up and brewed a coffee at my place you would be amazed to think this was even the same coffee you have been drinking as it tastes so much different.
