My favorite one is the underpass that proclaim the wonders of Red Deer, above a sculpture of a White Tailed Deer.

I can only hope that the taxpayers are happy with how the city spends their money.

Yeah maybe they should have spent their money on hiring professionals to install that soffit and fascia - it looks like it was installed with wrecking ball.

It’s probably a non Canadian artist.

Put a cape on it and make it SuperDeer!

Laughing deer, broken / hyper extended legs, ribs hanging out - those sculptures look ridiculous.

I want my money back !!!!!!

That's really nice art work. Like something by Hannibal Lecter. Call it Skewered Deer.

Now we know. Deer *can* scream.

Even the woke deer population are cringing with red faces.
That's hideous !!

Only thing it's missing is rainbow colored antlers with matching hoof's.

That's the look I'd have on my face as well, if I had posts stuck in those regions of my abdomen...

Hahaha my thoughts exactly before I got to
Your post.
Also Looks like a rainbow buck during rut. Just screaming for it. Good thing the city is hoping to tax motorists for not using this LRT or else who would go there to admire it?

Not done yet. Add bull balls like on the back end of red neck trucks, caught on a barb wire fence they just jumped over. Now that would be art.

I remember the discussion about the cost of designing the "Circle of light" public art work over Deerfoot trail, close to the airport. I recall it was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, just for the design.

It's literally a large metal circle with a set of "antlers" that holds a couple of lights.
I told my wife that I could have designed the main part of it by putting my coffee mug on the paper and drawing around the edge with a pencil.

At least it appears "finished" whereas the piece that is on the south side of 16 Ave N, close to the old Olympic site, looks like they were pounding steel into the ground to reinforce something and then hung some rocks on it.....

Looking at the pictures and it must be two deer. Am I right? At the same location? In one pic the front feet and legs are splayed out and the other pic the front legs and feet are back.

All these municipalities spend 1% of their annual budget on art.
That makes it a bureaucrat's job to buy art.
No one is going to spend their own money on something that looks so stupid, but a bureaucrat has to, because it's their job, and they have deadlines etc.
This brings down the overall quality of art in general, because now mediocre artists are getting payed by public dollars. They can afford to keep making mediocre art instead of going hungry and getting a real job.
