I'd return it and get a replacement.
I recently bought a new spring-piston Diana 24 in .22, and opted against a more readily available Crosman. Crosman seemed to always get things right in the cheap airgun business, especially with the pump-up pneumatics. From what I've seen/used of the more recently made ones? No thanks. They sell a ton of them so I'm not suggesting they're all bad...you probably just got a lemon.
As for the pumpers~I got a Crosman 1377 for my 16th birthday (33 years ago
) and while the seals have been replaced 2 times..it still shoots like the day I got it. If someone from Crosman read that, they'd probably say they must have made those TOO well. lol
