A few of my favorites from last year..looking forward to the opener for roosters next week we will have the pleasure of hunting with 5 goldens and 1 black lab this year, Cheers!!

DeNomad, both my dogs come from Bob Farris, Cedarwood Kennel in Boise Idaho. Cover has 3 Pudelpointers from Bob, and I am sure he would agree that Bob probably produces the finest, healthiest, goofiest, hard working Pudelpointers you can find.

MigrantHunter and I headed up to the Ridge last weekend to look for some Sharpies. Was a bit cloudy, with a decent breeze, but was pleasant enough.

After a bit we got into grouse, but my shooting left a bit to be desired. I ended up with one, and MH got 2.

Used the old Twist barrelled Parker Bros. shotgun that Cat most generously donated to the Children's Hospital (PIF thread) last year. THANKS CAT!!!

A couple days later took Parker and Keva out for a run and to scout some areas for the pheasant opener. Wasn't carrying a shotgun cause I had the little one (Keva) with me. Have not started introducing her to the gun yet, but she sure is getting her nose full of bird scent.

For you shotgun hunters, what choke and gauge do you prefer for grouse?

I use a .410 with a full choke, single shot. I can get them at 25 yards on the wing with that. Works great. I use #4 shot in it. For upland an over under 20g with a full and modified.

I use full choke with #4 or #5 shot for sharpies works great have a great success rate with that combo.

Roosters first pheasants, got a limit.
We've been having some tough times on grouse and partridge but when it comes to pheasants he does everything right.

Hes going for that elongated African neck look.
Should have sprung for the Alpha instead of the astro. I'd imagine he could go without the id collar but I don't fully trust the GPS, especially the other day when it said "lost communication" at 498 yards (weak battery). I need to order a new collar that would fit either the gps or ecollar with the riveted name plate then we could atleast ditch one of them.

I love the wood on the old house in the pictures, wish the pheasants weren't so roughed up from my vest pockets, but they match the wood well. Heres another..

I order name plates from gundogsupply.com with rivets and put on e-c and Astro collar too. I don't need a 'regular' collar and just in case I lose e-c or astro and some good soul finds it - they have my phone #.
