Default Gun Values

First is an older 243 BDL with scope (weaver) that is prob good to VG condition
Second is a M2 1400 semi Winchester. Has some small rust spots but has had less than 3 boxes of ammo shot through it.
Browning T-Bolt in that 70s era that spent time in a barn and has some rust and pitting. May be salt wood.
All these belong to a good friend and I want to be very fair to him on pricing thus I value your opinions. He thinks he purchased them at least 30-40 years ago,

Pictures would be a great help, especially since you mention rust and pitting, which will greatly effect the value.

Condition, condition, condition..is everything. The rifles are nothing special.

Pics not doable. They are not available. I have shot the 243 and handled it about five years ago and it was in good condition. Picture the 1400 as moderate rust and the T-Bolt as bad.

BDL might be in the 600 - 700 range to someone but guns are no different than anything else. Worth what someone's willing to pay.

Old BDL 5-600. The rusty 1400 $200, the Rusty T-bolt - if it really is salt wood and heavily rusted under the barrel where it touches the wood, I would only take it for free, and maybe not even then. You will need a new stock, about $270 landed from Boyds, as the salt wood never quits rusting the metal. Then add a polish and re-blue that is going to set you back at least another $400, assuming you can even polish all the pitting out of it. If the stock isn't salt wood, as in not heavily rusted under the barrel, you will still be spending $400 to clean it up.

Thanks all. Pretty much in line with my thoughts. I will be inspecting them in the near future and carry on from there.I will pull the stock on the T-Bolt and check it over as it is the one I'm personally interested in.

Guns are now in my safe. Friend was very generous in his description as the 1400 is in excellent condition and seems as new. Fore end etc had never been removed and only rust was at the rear of the barrel and cleaned up well. T-Bolt is slightly pitted under the stock (not salt wood) and should clean up well. Thank you to the fellows who took the time to PM and E-Mail me on their experience. I will be using the T-Bolt in the gopher patch and it fits in very well with the older Savage and Winchester. Wife likes the 243 fit and we all know how good these older 700's are. If someone is interested in the 1400 PM me

Thanks for the update. Always nice to know how these things turn out. Gives a guy incentive to keep trying to help. So often one provides info or suggestions and never hear what the outcome is. Don't know whether it is laziness or lack of thought. Either way, it is like sending a thank you note after being invited over for supper, no longer common but always appreciated.
