Default Fishing the Athabasca river

Looking at the new regs and noticed the the river is closed for fishing from jasper to whitecourt . How long has this been the norm for ? I was thinking of doing a canoe trip there , but if it's closed for fishing I'll have to go somewhere else

Catch and release is a joke?? In that case, I'd recommend a stocked trout pond or the NSR (downstream of Edmonton)

Its CLOSED in the section East of Jasper From 12 Mile Bridge (km 22, Hwy 16 East) downstream to east park boundary, including all side channels, Pocahontas Ponds and other connected wetlands .

This is to Protect spawning Rainbows and Grayling if any.

You can keep Rainbows , Brookies and Whites..2 per day in JNP

Closed to keeping fish since there was a pit breach and the river was contaminated. Fishing is still good from what friends say and you can still keep from the Berland in past years, I haven't checked this years regs yet in regards to the Berland.
