Re-bore gunsmith ?
I have a LH Ruger Scout I am thinking about reboring to 358 Winchester. I know Ron Smith is the guy, but have heard he doesn't do many anymore. Are there any other gunsmiths in Canada that can do it as well as Ron? Thanks for any info.

It would be best to phone Ron and ask him personally !
He will tell you exactly how long and how much or “ nope!”

Yikes sounds like a hidden problem. I am guessing everyone who does anything might have had in their career...

Feel like elaborating on that? I have great things to say about Bob Jury and his barrels. I currently have two of them and have had another two that I no longer have.

I think Henry does great work and at very reasonable prices by Alberta standards. When did Henry start making or re-boring barrels? His phone number, though I haven't talked to him in a couple of years. 403-272-8416
K$S in Edmonton is another very good choice. Make very good barrels, don't know if they do re-bores but worth a call.

Yes Dean, KS does do re-bores , I had asked about a job earlier .
I didn’t know that Henry Remple was doing barrel work either , I thought he was only doing chambering but he may have added some equipment

Ya, there are people who install a barrel, there are people who rebore and make barrels, the latter have the same equipt, the former most likely doesn't.

Lol.
Quality varies dramatically as well and sadly most proclaimed pros here couldn't tell the difference if it stared them in the face. These forums are all full of experts...lol...who make in most cases nothing with their own hands!

Do update us. I’ve got a rem 673 in 308. Love it but the 358 speaks to me
Mohawk 358 just makes sense

Spoke with KS Arms, they did not have time to do a re-bore, or did not want to do one (Rem 700 30-06 to 35 Whelen) Spoke with Bob Jury but by the time he does a re-bore ($350.00) plus engaging another smith to perform the re-chambering as you need to clean that up you're at $650-700, might as well ad a barrel new for an additional $100. I have not been able to get ahold of Ron Smith, if I could he did quote one done for $500.00 chambered and done.

back from out of town, now U C the only saving is the 30 piece is steel if it is a Krieser you can sell it for a new barrel of a smaller maker,
also the tapered barrel may be harder to spin or hold to redrill and drilling a new hole is more difficult than when steel is new with a proper pilot hole,
any barrel maker who is at all busy will not give much of a discount to redo the whole barrel and there will be more stress imparted into the steel ie martensite does not line up anymore,
and that is why he is not worth the call to redo your welcome
